RUSSIAN DOCTORS FORBIDDEN TO ADVISE ABORTION OF DISABLED BABIES
Sir, – The Danish ambassador to Ireland claims that his country does not have a policy to eradicate people with Down Syndrome, and says that, in 2016 “there were four children born in Denmark with Down’s syndrome after prenatal diagnosis” (News, December 5th).
He failed to disclose, however, that according to the Danish Cytogenetic Central Register, an average of 98 per cent of babies diagnosed with Down Syndrome before birth are aborted each year.
In 2016, according to official figures, 137 preborn babies were diagnosed the condition in Denmark, and 133 children were aborted while just four were born. Six years previously, in 2010, of the 156 babies diagnosed with Down Syndrome in utero, every single one was aborted.
This shocking and tragic reality is not brought about by chance.
In a 2015 interview with Vice News, the professor of gynaecology and obstetrics at the University of Copenhagen, said: “I think that Danish women are less sentimental about aborting malformed fetuses partly because that view is supported by professional medical staff. Recommending abortions isn’t an obligation but we give very realistic prognoses . . . We give parents realistic expectations about future problems and generally, women carrying foetuses with severe malformations are recommended to terminate the pregnancy.”
Denmark’s abortion policy, and its effect on their culture, is clearly central to the almost complete eradication of people with Down Syndrome in that country. It is a reality that the debate on abortion in this country cannot ignore. –

The medical system seems focused on filling pregnant women with fear and giving them lots of what is, frankly, terrible medical advice. I could give examples if anyone wants "proof".Valerie wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 11:01 pmHallelujah!MaxPC wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 10:33 pm From the OrthoChristian website:

It brings back memories to me of a couple in our previous Church. She was pregnant with their third child and the doctor but the baby had spinal bifida and advised them to abort him. He was preparing them for a terrible situation at birth.
This couple would not consider abortion. Several months later a healthy beautiful baby boy was born with absolutely no problems. But if it had been the way that doctor was indicating it would possibly be they would have faced that situation with God's help.
Too often parents are encouraged to abort and I'm glad to see Russia take that position
Yesterday I attended her funeral. There were about 230 people there, some lined up along the back wall (our church building was too small.) Her mother was crying, but when we sang "Amazing Grace" I could hear her beautiful voice clear from the other side of the auditorium. Our last two pastors officiated, and the Gospel was given out.
How would I know? The linked document is in Russian so it could be hockey scores or borscht recipes for all I know. I have no idea what kind of change of policy this represents or what abortion politics and laws are in Russia. I do think women should have the option of aborting non-viable fetuses or non-viable pregnancies, especially if they threaten the life of the mother. I see no point in carrying a pregnancy to term if there is no chance the fetus will survive and if that risks the life of the mother.
We have had children in the family with handicaps, including Downs. We learn so much from them as well as in our caring for them. As Josh notes, too often expectant parents are advised in fears. All of life is valuable from the womb to the tomb.
