Humans were designed for planet earth. Humans were not designed to live anywhere else other than the earth.

The toilet anecdote also highlights a fundamental truth about humanity and its extraterrestrial ambitions — no matter how polished and glitzy we may imagine our space-faring future, biological realities remain.

Well yes. We most certainly weren’t designed to live in space. No type of life as we know it was designed to live in space.

But we also now know that there are thousands if not millions of other similar planets in our galaxy. So I’m not certain that there aren’t other worlds out there that might be as comparable, or even more comparable than earth in terms of sustaining life. But they will be a LONG LONG ways away and certainly not within our reach with current or any conceivable future technology.

Elon Musk and others seems to be big on colonizing Mars. But personally I think we are better off protecting the world that we already live on rather than trying to do things like terraforming on another planet millions of miles away.

I couldn't agree more. It's probably the thing that separates me from the political right more than anything. I don't know why conservatives are so obsessed with the right to pillage the environment for short term gain. The green new deal was deeply flawed for many reasons, and AOC is generally misguided, but at least she tried...

Well if you approach it from a secular standpoint, its very logical to set up a colony on Mars otherwise the same thing that killed the Dinosaurs could kill us. We have all our eggs in one basket. Now from a technology side, I'm not sure we actually have the capability to do a colony on Mars or even the moon yet.

This is a bit like saying, if people were supposed to fly, God would’ve given us wings…and yet, we fly.

If we really believe that humans are not intended to live anywhere else than the earth, then we’ve done an incredibly poor job stewarding and caring for the planet.

Two separate issues here. I find the science of building a science colony on Mars to be absolutely fascinating. And I loved the movie “The Martian” with Matt Damon. But I don’t think a Mars colony is remotely a backup solution for life on earth. There are 7.6 billion humans on earth. At best with our current science we probably couldn’t create a Mars colony with more than a couple hundred people at best. And one that is completely self-sufficient is even more problematic. I don’t think that is remotely a solution for humanity compared to actually taking care of the planet that we do live on. And how would we even decide which few hundred humans would be entitled to form such a colony?

So yes, lets do Mars science. I think that is immensely interesting. But no, Mars isn’t a good backup plan if we destroy the earth. We should avoid destroying the earth in the first place because we don’t have a viable backup plan.

Didn't God give humankind curiosity and a desire to explore? How can we fulfill that desire in the modern world?

I don't see space exploration as anything but a natural extension of humanity's desire to explore. It's all God's universe, and it's all going to end at the end of time anyway. Why shouldn't humanity try to "reach for the stars?"

That said, it does seem that space actively will try to kill you in ten different ways.

Revelation 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
I consider this a prophecy that we will destroy the earth. Humans in general.

If we consider the exploration of space and the colonizing of other planets like we did the expeditions and early American colonies, is it any surprise that there would be casualties?
I would fully expect the first lunar or Martian colony to be a disaster and I've made jokes about being the first missionary to Mar's. They are most likely all going to die.
That being said, a good start would be what they have been doing with habitat research in some deserts.
