Out of my jobs, none of them have cared that I have a beard and would fail a fit test during the pandemic… it was only last year that Aveanna actually fit tested me which I failed of course. They permitted me to test my P100 which due to good design actually passed. That being said, protocols at least I was familiar with stated I would need a PAPR…Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 11:19 pm What the recent advice is, at least as far as I have received it from my now former employer:
It spreads via aerosolized particles. Therefore anything but a properly fitted N-95 is almost useless. A fit test would be necessary.
6 feet is not protective, as it fills the room rapidly.
While the current vaccines are far better than nothing, they should not be counted on for protection. See N-95 above.
Frankly, I would not be able to wear one, and never could for more than a few minutes.
My first job they had 1 positive covid patient and they decided we needed to put a fresh N-95 on when we went in and throw it away after. Our door into the patient room was a curtain. They also made us use isolation gowns…
Our poor patient was dying alone and couldn’t understand why everything changed… why they couldn’t sit with their housemates or have the Bible read to them…
So there I was outside of this “curtain” feeling stupid removing all my protective equipment and according to management “hold your breath” while I put on my one week reused N95 they wanted treated with Lysol until they listened to the research I dug up…. Disaster…
Management wasn’t medical and while they tried, it really was performative.
One patient refused to let me work unless I put a cloth mask on.
My very next patient refused to let me work unless I took it off.
