President Joe Biden on Thursday is announcing sweeping new federal vaccine requirements affecting as many as 100 million Americans in an all-out effort to increase COVID-19 vaccinations and curb the surging delta variant that is killing thousands each week and jeopardizing the nation’s economic recovery.

The expansive rules mandate that all employers with more than 100 workers require them to be vaccinated or test for the virus weekly, affecting about 80 million Americans. And the roughly 17 million workers at health facilities that receive federal Medicare or Medicaid also will have to be fully vaccinated.
Biden’s order for executive branch workers and contractors includes exceptions for workers seeking religious or medical exemptions from vaccination, according to Psaki.
Hopefully this will drive a few employees to the small businesses. We need them right now. :)

I am curious. There is a lot of noise about the delta variant. Is there a test for this variant or is it just assumed that all current cases are the delta variant?

Well... maybe its better I didn't get hired at that large company... I'd like to see how they are deciding the qualifiers for the religious objection otherwise this could seriously effect my ability to get hired anywhere. Mike what do you pay?

Here's the newly announced plan.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/covidplan/

Some interesting bits:
Requiring All Employers with 100+ Employees to Ensure their Workers are Vaccinated or Tested Weekly

The Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is developing a rule that will require all employers with 100 or more employees to ensure their workforce is fully vaccinated or require any workers who remain unvaccinated to produce a negative test result on at least a weekly basis before coming to work. OSHA will issue an Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) to implement this requirement. This requirement will impact over 80 million workers in private sector businesses with 100+ employees.
Requiring Employers to Provide Paid Time Off to Get Vaccinated

To continue efforts to ensure that no worker loses a dollar of pay because they get vaccinated, OSHA is developing a rule that will require employers with more than 100 employees to provide paid time off for the time it takes for workers to get vaccinated or to recover if they are under the weather post-vaccination. This requirement will be implemented through the ETS.

It looks like at this point the only real change is to require testing for unvaccinated. The places I've seen doing that though shortly later change it to no exemptions outside of religious or medical. The other side is to mandate it for almost all medical facilities... at least anywhere that takes Medicaid or Medicare.

Yet L.A. is requiring vaccination for all students. I’d really like to understand why this is necessary.

The UK has not approved vaccination for those under 15 years old. They haven't really said why, but have hinted at safety concerns.

I can see why.

Another way of thinking about the risk to kids is that children under 10 make up over 22% of the US population, yet they have accounted for just .08% of the deaths from COVID. The main argument for vaccinating kids is to limit spread...but at what cost. Any vaccine, even a good one like the MRNA vaccines, has potential side effects. At these low risk levels for children, I wonder what if risk/benefit calculation is getting close to breaking even.

As a healthy younger male who has had COVID, my risk of death from COVID is statistically zero, yet it looks like I'll now need to either get vaccinated or undergo weekly testing. Neither of which I intend to comply with.

Risk/benefit calculation hasn't been involved in these vaccine mandates at all. It's, instead, a raw exercise in state power; certain political factions want to prove that they can force everyone else to do whatever arbitrary thing they want them to do.

Rather disturbingly, in my home state where I was born, the premier there (equivalent of governor in the U.S.) says you cannot participate in the economy unless you decided to be vaccinated. That has nothing to do with risk/benefit calculations. It's instead measures to try to get people to "submit" to the government - telling people they cannot buy, sell, or work unless they submit.
