In the US, Canada, UK and Australia, a person can remain silent but a non-guilty plea will still be entered by the court. It would be nice for a person to be able to say, "I'm certainly guilty before God for some things but I need some time to study the law in order to understand what it is that I am indeed legally guilty of."
The US system also produces a surprising number of false guilty pleas by pressuring defendants until they are willing to plead guilty for reduced charges. Defendants who believe the legal system represents reality and is not just a big role playing activity are disadvantaged by pleading moral guilt in place of ceremonial guilt.
In most cases, one can plead no contest to a plea bargain.
If one is guilty of something and knows one is, then one should plead guilty and accept the punishment. If you were accused of being a believer in Jesus, would you plead guilty? Or would you negotiate a plea deal?
What about the other 26 boys? Could indictments still be brought concerning them?
???

A wee little man can’t say, I’m sorry. A big man owns his mistakes and apologizes.
A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.

It is highly likely the plea agreement says no other charges will be brought. The agreement will eventually be public record if you want to go inspect it yourself.
