Every one of these issues: youth violence, abortion, LGBT rights, pollution, pandemics, are all issues of PUBLIC policy. If you are seeking solutions to any of them then you have to engage with public policy and expect that your leaders will address these issues in the ways that you feel appropriate, or find new leaders who will.Josh wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 5:37 pmRun away from problems?
If a child is being beaten up on a school bus, and asking the school district to help, and they refuse, what do you propose parents do? Just keep sending their child to be beaten and abused?
Absolutely fleeing is sometimes the right answer.
I'm not quite sure what you're saying here.Abortion, LGBT rights, pollution, pandemics, and everything else discussed here? Just run away?
Abortion is murdering an innocent baby, a tiny child. It's not something we should "run" from. At the same time, I am not willing to pick up a gun and use force (whether as part of organised government or otherwise) to force a murderer to stop his murdering.
Homosexuality is a grave sin in the eyes of God, and one that often ruins a young child's life. The Bible is very clear about that. But again, I am not willing to pick up a gun and use force. God's law is clear:
I do think it is quite reasonable to "run away" and hide my children from sexual predators.Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
Pollution? Again, I'm not willing to use force. Sometimes it may indeed be best to simply avoid a polluted place. And to take care not to pollute one's self.
Pandemics? I am quite against lockdowns, hiding in fear, and so on. (At one point I was more open to these things.) The answer to illness and sickness is not to cower in fear but to trust in God.
Violent public schools? Well, I'm not on a school board. I'm not a government official. I have no power or control over public schools.
I think doing what we can to provide children who are in danger of being abused a safe place to be educated is a very good thing. I will stand by, quite strongly, what I said earlier that providing a good, private Christian school is an excellent thing to do.
Packing up and moving or taking your kids to private schools isn't a solution to what you titled as the subject of this thread which is "violence in schools" because it will do nothing to address the problem of violence in schools. But that wasn't your objective anyway. You weren't actually seeking solutions to the problem of violence in public schools. You were seeking an excuse to attack public schools. Which is fine. Attack away, you have plenty of company. But just don't pretend you are actually looking for real solutions because you are not.
I actually pointed to recent data which suggest that the two biggest factors associated with youth violence are poverty and easy availability of firearms. Those are two places I suggest you start if you are actually interested in improving public education outcomes and making schools safer.
