Bankruptcy: Boy Scouts of America

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

83,000 claims! Sounds like the bankruptcy is no only fiscal but moral. I'm grieved for the harm done to these thousands of children...and how the echoes of that harm doubtless reverberates forward. :(

I agree as do many parents. A newer organization has emerged and is growing apace. It offers both skills badges and emphasizes traditional Christian teachings and moral formation.

A reasonable question is what checks and balances they plan to put in place as this behavior happened years ago in the BSA.

The article says plaintiffs range in age from 8-93, without breakdown of numbers/ages, but suggests the problems continue.

BSA has made recent changes, it seems regarding branding, they now include girls, i’m opposed to this.

Because of adult politics, and gov involvement, i would not recommend involvement with either group, just as i would not be involved with Disney. These big corporations were built on trust to be about children and traditional families. In recent years, they’ve somehow gone off the rails with questionable political blocs, exploiting children to advance these causes. No shame.

Trail Life USA, and AHG American Heritage Girls are growing scouting alternatives with no gov entanglements (that i’m aware).

Folks need to be aware, there are dedicated activists attempting to decriminalize adult-child sex crimes, and to normalize them as valid alternative lifestyles.

They will try to twist big numbers to prove their point.

If I were considering this or any other organization for my children I would go to their website and ask them about their safeguards and protocols. *(I am not though because my children are now grandparents themselves in some cases)

Always a good question. Do ask questions, and check for attentiveness to rules.

Parental first-person involvement is priceless, altho not 100% guard against abusers. Some abusers are quite good at gaining trust of parents/adults. Watch your children’s behaviors! Watch for small things. Children often feel guilty and blame themselves, they try to protect their abusers. Abusers can be very likable. To be a successful abuser, being likable, trusted, is important.

Having said that, i’ve been hearing about Trail Life USA and AHG for several years, no scandals i’m aware of. Time will tell. Sometimes it takes a lot of time.

i agree with you, take nothing for granted. “trust, and verify.” listen to your gut. :-|
