I know. The shame and stigma those boys are facing because of what Jeriah Mast did is awful. I was talking with someone on Facebook and she said that she and others who have worked or are working in Haiti fully expect to hear news of some of the victims committing suicide because of that shame and stigma. I pray that will NOT be the case.blackfriar wrote:The details in this story about the abuse are completely jarring, and just speak to the depth of the depravity here. I was wondering how long that would take. I heard they were trying to get a comment from someone from Ephrata but no one would answer the phone.cmbl wrote:Now in the Lancaster news

From what I understand the Ephrata office referred the local press to call the main office in Ohio.steve-in-kville wrote:cmbl wrote:

CAM's board has just made a statement admitting that key leadership staff knew about Jeriah's abuse since 2013. According to the statement, none of the board new about his abuse of minors until 2019. Paul Weaver and Eli Weaver have been place on administrative leave. Here is the statement:

I appreciate the steps that they have taken and the position they express about the need for Jeriah to answer for his crimes.Dan Z wrote:CAM's board has just made a statement admitting that key leadership staff knew about Jeriah's abuse since 2013. Thanks to all who are keeping this thread current. Between following the CAM situation, as well as another that's more personal, I've had enough internet for a while!

Re: The *official* CAM scandal links thread
We have seen a lot of criticism of Trudy Metzger on MennoNet. I would like to respond to this if I may, (and trust Trudy will forgive me for some of what I say.)
I believe Trudy writes in a hurry (I don't believe she has the time to edit and rewrite everything she writes.)
Trudy has seen and experienced much that is not the way we wish it would be. She seems to have a very forthright character; this coupled with her bad experiences has lead her to speak very boldly (and some might say rashly.)
Those of us who are more restrained wish she were more like we are. Would she have accomplished more if she had shown more restraint? I think not. Sometimes someone has to say "but the king has no clothes!"
I have suggested to Trudy that she keep on but that she go gently.
Now is not yet the time to back off CAM completely. It looks as though public response has had a positive effect on those in responsibility at CAM so they must continue to feel the public pressure. At the same time we have to be gracious enough to allow them space to do what we all know is a very difficult job. And Trudy has showed this grace in her last blog.

I see where you are coming from with this, but see where Trudy is going. If you have ever been hurt by the hands of a corrupt leader of an Anabaptist church, you will see why she has such a passion and drive for this topic. Cut her some slack.Hats Off wrote: I have suggested to Trudy that she keep on but that she go gently.
