It seems consistent with what I’ve read so far — having Covid does give you immunity, but it’s unclear for how long or how durable it is.
The same is also true of the vaccine.
That’s what booster shots are for.
Actually, there is virtually no evidence of repeated covid infections happening, although it is possible and much research is dedicated to finding that out. But no, repeat cases have not been confirmed in the wild.
Your body’s immune system is the best defence against naturally occurring viruses.

From my reading, while Covid reinfections are rare, they do happen. There are repeat cases “in the wild.”
My wife lost a relative to Covid on Friday. Her immune system didn’t work so well for her this time.
The director of the National Institutes of Health said on Sunday predicted that the US could reach "herd immunity" from COVID-19 at 70 to 85 percent of people vaccinated or previously infected — and said some regions of the country are getting close to that.
Dr. Francis Collins said experts "don’t really quite know" yet the exact rate of the population that needs some form of protection to achieve herd immunity, but the benchmark is likely "up there around 70, 85 percent."
"We’re not there yet. You can see some places in the country that are getting close to that with a combination of having had a lot of cases of COVID, which also provides you with some immunity, plus the vaccines," Collins told NBC host Chuck Todd on "Meet the Press."
But Collins said that other regions — and the country as a whole — is not as close to reaching herd immunity.

Cases crashed when Israel's vaccination rate reached about 60%. So that is one real-world marker. But that's 60% of population, not 60% of adults, which is how the numbers are sometimes presented in the US. Right now we are at about 42% here in the US (population that has gotten at least one shot). https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations
If you add a 60% vaccination rate with however many actually got Covid you might be getting close to 70% immunity. I expect there are a LOT of people who got mild or asymptomatic Covid and never got tested, but now have some level of immunity.

The "fourth wave" of Covid in the US is showing signs of weakness.
Decrease in daily deaths from the virus has basically stalled out in the last month, with only the slightest drop in the last few weeks.
We're hanging around 60,000 new cases daily and 700+ deaths daily at this point.
CDC excess deaths chart. It will be interesting to see how 2021 shakes out in terms of excess deaths. We really should see fewer than expected deaths at some point.

I agree. We'll watch with interest. By the time this is done, the US will have endured perhaps 700,000 excess deaths. Those were people who would have eventually died anyway, but Covid and related issues caused the life expectancy to drop as these people died earlier than they might have otherwise. I would expect these excess deaths from 2020 & 2021 to be offset over the next number of years with lower than average death rates.

Maybe many of the deaths are from poor treatment protocols.
Thank you for sharing this. The Health & Freedom livestream conference i attended had physicians line him who successfully treated patients and had 0 deaths.
There are a lot of ligitimate questions to be raised, and like this doctor, expressed so many deaths could have been prevented. The right protocol in the beginning (and as he said, the right doctor) is/was essential.
The American Federation of Teachers lobbied the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on, and even suggested language for, the federal agency’s school-reopening guidance released in February.
The powerful teachers union’s full-court press preceded the federal agency putting the brakes on a full re-opening of in-person classrooms, emails between top CDC, AFT and White House officials show.
The emails were obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by the conservative watchdog group Americans for Public Trust and provided to The Post.
The documents show a flurry of activity between CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, her top advisors and union officials — with Biden brass being looped in at the White House — in the days before the highly-anticipated Feb. 12 announcement on school-reopening guidelines.
