I think the logic goes something like this:

It's more entertaining to speculate about what the real logic is, as opposed to the official line we are given.

Some of the official line might shed light on the way it is being implemented. And why these lines occur in a National Security Strategy document in the first place.
…we want to ensure that the Western Hemisphere remains reasonably stable and well-governed enough to prevent and discourage mass migration to the United States; we want a Hemisphere whose governments cooperate with us against narco-terrorists, cartels, and other transnational criminal organizations; we want a Hemisphere that remains free of hostile foreign incursion or ownership of key assets, and that supports critical supply chains; and we want to ensure our continued access to key strategic locations.

In other words, we will assert and enforce a ‘Trump Corollary’ to the Monroe Doctrine;
After years of neglect, the United States will reassert and enforce the Monroe Doctrine to restore American preeminence in the Western Hemisphere, and to protect our homeland and our access to key geographies throughout the region…
Energy Dominance – Restoring American energy dominance (in oil, gas, coal, and nuclear) and reshoring the necessary key energy components is a top strategic priority.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

(i think) it’s really important to know official statements when offered and possible. as a baseline.
understanding, public statements are never in full, often, critical info is withheld, if not, security clearances would be useless.

jumping to negative or positive conclusions most reflects the heart+mind+dreams of the speculators, not reality.
the internet is a 24/7 buffet of speculation, a main course is hate and destruction. :-|

the best way to encourage good choices and good behaviors is to offer respect for the burden and responsibility.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

I mean all of that does sound like an understandable goal for the United States to have.

It’s how you say it generally. Up until more recently Americans have phrased their goals politically correct.

The U.S. has been seizing Venezuelan government property for some time now, complete with courts and judgments authorising doing such.

If Maduro objects, he could show up in court, I guess, or open diplomatic relations with the U.S. and Canada. Instead, he’s just been in bed with Russia helping them smuggle oil which they aren’t supposed to do under sanctions.
Do you have examples other than the oil tanker that was seized the other day?
Listen to the President explain.
I did. I posted his tweet or truth or whatever it’s called.

But if it is implemented by military means, it is no longer understandable. If it basically means we claim the right to threaten countries in the Americas and use military force to enforce our will on them ... it looks like the same things we criticize Russia or China for.

Hate to break it to you… what do you think we’ve been doing for years?

The seizure of the Citgo oil refineries happened quite a while ago. A judge just approved the final sale to pay off alleged debts owed by the Venezuelan government.

I think it should be rather obvious Boot why the U.S. wouldn’t want Russia or China having client states in the Americas.

Do you really want Russia and China having client states in the Americas out of some odd belief that it’s wrong if the U.S. does it but apparently okay if Russia does it?
