Now my pastor has COVID. So far it's just like a bad cold with extra aches.
Everyone's prayers are appreciated.

It seems to be much less severe than it was in March. Let's hope it stays that way.JimFoxvog wrote:Now my pastor has COVID. So far it's just like a bad cold with extra aches.

I am not saying that this is the end all, but it makes real sense, and makes sense why people with Covid are succumbing to seemingly unrelated diseases. A heart attack or stroke may actually come from Covid.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
It would explain why Dexamethasone is so effective, and systemic antivirals seem to have only a marginal effect. It would also explain the declining mortality rate, as treatment seems to have focused less on the lungs, and more on systemic inflammation control. That being said, needs more work.justme wrote:i've heard similar concepts from the docs at work.Judas Maccabeus wrote:I am not saying that this is the end all, but it makes real sense, and makes sense why people with Covid are succumbing to seemingly unrelated diseases. Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
it also helps explain why ventilators aren't really helpful.
no matter how much o2 you give them, or how you give it to them, their sats aren't going to go up until you take care of those blood clots in the lungs.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
Yeah. Pulmonary embolisms. We were asked to do scans for these, but our outpatient facility was not equipped for Covid-19, you would need a negative pressure room. These involve aerosols, and you would contaminate the entire facility.justme wrote:it also helps explain why ventilators aren't really helpful.

My friends in the hospital were saying they were seeing many PEs, far more than they would normally expect. IIRC, if someones PTT was above a certain point, they were anti-coagulating them presumptively. Makes sense.
It also explains the seemingly unexplained MIs that are occurring in this patient group. The denialists say that it is not Covid, but this is staring them in the face. It also explains why certain risk factors (HTN, Diabetes, History of cardiac disease) portend a far more dismal outcome, when by all rights it should not. It may explain why the African American community is so hard hit, as they have very high rates of vascular disease.
But enough for speculating. I take it you are back at work.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
I am back to work. Yes.
And covid is now here. In the spring it was far away in the big cities and people were paranoid.
Now it is here and people are either legitimately scared or invincible.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
New COVID-19 cases are soaring.

Daily new deaths are clearly now trending up, but again at a much reduced rate of increase relative to prior waves of the virus.

Sweden has now dropped to 18th in ranking of countries by deaths/million from the virus.

In fact, Sweden has now been seeing fewer than expected deaths for the past two months, according to ourworldindata.org. US data for excess deaths on this chart is only updated through the end of September, when it was hanging at 9%.

The CDC's excess deaths chart has more recent data although as usual recent weeks don't reflect full reporting. However, the trends could still appear to suggest that we may see a time soon when total deaths in the US fall below normally expected levels. It will be interesting to follow.
