https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 7920304258Now a new, peer-reviewed study in the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents may add fuel to a fire that seemed to be burning out. The study finds that outpatients with the coronavirus who were treated with hydroxychloroquine combined with zinc and the antibiotic azithromycin were less likely to be hospitalized. Fewer than 3% of outpatients who took the drug regimen ended up in the hospital versus 15% who did not take it.
A number of studies have found that hydroxychloroquine has no effect on inpatients. But critics have said that patients who are already in the hospital may be too sick for the drug to have any effect. Outpatients, they claim, often present with milder symptoms, and thus, hydroxychloroquine may prove effective.

Even if this is true in some cases, the excess deaths numbers show that the virus has had a severe effect on total deaths in the US during the peak months of this situation. Up 20-40% during the worst months.Robert wrote:https://www.oann.com/cdc-reveals-hospit ... 19-deaths/

Not unusual at all, I have seen Lung cancer patients die from electrolyte imbalance, uncontrolled bleeding and cardiac arrest. All of these deaths were caused by the underlying malignancy, but it was not the immediate cause.mike wrote:Even if this is true in some cases, the excess deaths numbers show that the virus has had a severe effect on total deaths in the US during the peak months of this situation. Many flu victims die from pneumonia. It was flu that got the cascade started.

According to the CDC, all age groups other than "Under 25" have seen abnormally high deaths as compared to 2015-2019.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
On a personal note, a friend and colleague of mine who is high risk (around 70, overweight, diabetic, and with other risk factors) tested positive for COVID on Monday. He has had a couple of trips to the ER, once before the diagnosis and once since for coughing issues, but has not been hospitalized. He is feeling lousy but breathing well and feeling a bit better each day. He is one of the people I have been most concerned about what would happen if he caught the virus. Now he has it. Things could still go south, but he could certainly be worse given all his risk factors. Hoping for the best. I worked at a desk near his about 10 days ago for a couple hours when he may have been contagious. His wife is one of my employees, but she has been off since his positive test.

A friend of mine died of COVID a few days ago. He was 85 but still active until his sickness as the village handyman and in the Gideons. He wasn't into wearing a mask.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
Masks do not stop one from getting it, they are supposed to slow the spread to others. So, if he was wearing a mask, he would have gotten it anyway. If one is positive, one is called to wear a mask to slow the spread. We do not wear masks to keep us from getting Covid. We are supposed to wear them so if we are positive and unknowing so we slow the spread to others.JimFoxvog wrote:A friend of mine died of COVID a few days ago. Since there has been an uptick in cases in IN, we are taking Vitamin D3 and Zinc. These two are supposed to reduce chances of getting Covid. I heard 80% of hospitalizations are Vitamin D deficient. I am not sure how that could be determined, but it doesn't hurt to take a small tablet once a day. Well, two counting the Zinc.

If he would have smoked or chewed tobacco people would have said that was the cause.
But he never smoked or chewed tobacco in his life.
Similar extrapolation.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
However, smoking And oral tobacco use is not the only cause or oral cancer, in fact, with declining tobacco use in general you would have expected it to decline more rapidly.silentreader wrote:A friend of mine is recovering from surgery for mouth cancer.JimFoxvog wrote:A friend of mine died of COVID a few days ago. However, we now know that HPV infection is responsible for much of it. It was thought to have been a problem, but genetic testing of tumors has put the smoking gun in it’s hands.
