News article just posted today with some information that is new at least to me. The local sheriff is saying that charges are expected.
The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office is interviewing alleged victims, who are now adults but were children at the time of the alleged abuse, Chief Deputy Richard Haun said Thursday.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Haun said. “We anticipate charges are forthcoming.”
Prosecutors and police can move forward in a case where victims refuse to press charges. It’s just much harder. It can be hard to get a grand jury to indict in such a case, for example.

Generally prosecutors take a dim view to someone who tries to persuade a lot of people not to press charges. This is going to be politically significant stuff over the next few months and years.

It appears this story is starting to go mainstream.

Who told Rodenhouse that Jeriah had "moral failure" b/c clearly they knew? It seems like it probably was Eli Weaver who it sounds like was the direct supervisor based on that story.

I still cannot wrap my head around him being able to get away with this for years... (particularly the numbers involved, state-side and abroad!) The level of either naivete, blind faith (oh he "repented") or sweeping it under the rug is staggering, especially in this day and age. I thought conservative Mennonites had turned a corner in getting people like this into counseling/therapy and certainly out of any ministry positions etc...but I guess not. But maybe he was so misleading/mendacious that he was able to con everyone... still shaking my head.

Jazman,

To the contrary, many people (including us conservative Mennonites) did speak up, and were ignored, silenced, or marginalised. I have learned I was not the only one. Many others spoke up and asked questions years ago, and many more did recently.

We really are better than this. A few cling to the old ways. I really don’t think much is going to make it past this round.

A number of us have been fed up for a while and aren’t going to back down. I became a Christian because I desperately wanted out of a life of materialism, fornication, drunkenness, and emptiness. Christ showed me a new path. I will not stand idly by to watch people raised in a good church succumb to sexual sin, lying, cover ups, and hypocrisy. Repentance is on offer along with a changed life.

from what i read here, including the link toward the bottom of the page, i think i could learn to hate the word, “restoration.” :-|

Alaska:
“Alaska Supreme Court rules state sex offender registry law unconstitutional”
https://www.foxnews.com/us/alaska-supre ... titutional

i believe rulings like this will have an awful impact on victims.
it took so much effort to put sex offender registries in place.

i have understood there is no effective rehabilitation for sex offenders, particularly not child sex offenders.

i certainly believe God has no limits.

however, humans are not good at even identifying these problems, and many more, let alone “curing” them. add to that, backsliding is continual hazard, for every sin. it’s a daily battle.

Josh,

If you knew about Jeriah’s misdeeds why didn’t you go to the law and report him? Wouldn’t that make you responsible as well?

This is a charity church, and they were opposed to "outside-the-church" counseling. Here are two sermons from their archives. The quotation marks tell you all you need to know.

Curvin Wenger and Mark Miller are scheduled to have meetings July 26 - 28 at Fairview Reception Centre in Lebanon, Pa. on these topics. https://www.plainnews.org/wp-content/up ... urch-2.pdf. I thought it might be an interesting session.
