What reports are you listening to Robert? Maybe your experience is different than mine, but "rampant fear" doesn't nearly define what I'm experiencing from those who are taking COVID-19 seriously. People are adjusting to life's challenges like they always do. They are masking, distancing, limiting travel and business capacities, washing their hands...and going about their lives, wisely listening to their public health experts and doctors, respecting the disease that has suddenly become the third largest killer of Americans, and doing their best for the greater good.

Evidently, one person's fear is another person's prudence.
What I see around here is not fear. But rather people growing less and less tolerant of the bad behavior and stupidity that is endlessly prolonging this pandemic. Like, for example here in the Pacific Northwest:

COVID-19 outbreak in UW’s Greek system grew by 27% over the weekend https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-ne ... e-weekend/

and

An Idaho high school football game was canceled after anti-government activist Ammon Bundy refused to wear a mask or leave school grounds. https://www.oregonlive.com/news/2020/10 ... -mask.html

Unfortunately for Trump, I think he picked the wrong side on this one. The cavalier attitude of the White House towards this pandemic is wearing thin. Actually, picking a side at all was the wrong move for a president and just unnecessarily divisive. He should be leading, not following.
The only way he can win is to divide. I think he thought this would cause a division that worked in his favor.

This guy has no coherent policy, he “talks out of both sides of his mouth “

If he had actually lead an effective Federal response to the virus like many other developed countries have done, he'd likely be cruising to re-election right now. The popularity ratings of heads of state in countries that have effectively responded to the virus have shot WAY up. But that's water under the bridge now. His big strategy was to change the subject but catching Covid himself pretty much shot that one out of the water as well. I don't know what their campaign strategy is going to be for the last 4 weeks of the campaign. But the race seems to be solidifying and nothing in the news anymore seems to be pushing the polls one way or the other very much. People seem to have already made up their minds and are already voting as we write. There are also a LOT LOT less undecided voters this year than in 2016 if the polls are to be believed.

It's not over until it's over. But this doesn't feel like a tossup election any more. Like it did say in March.

I checked my Bible and it says a lot about not living in fear of diseases; it didn’t say anything about me needing to cover my face, though, unless I’m a priest and run into God in the Holy of Holies.

You could check and see what it says about covering your lip if you have leprosy.

I am not talking about wearing or not wearing a mask, although there is not clear science showing that the mask wearing is helping. There is a lot of assumptions and speculation. They may be right, but there is no double blind study and this is what many wanted for HCQ.

There is real fer in our society about Covid. The media keeps hyping it also. Yes, we need to be careful and respectful, but lockdowns and screaming or tazing a person because they are not complying is not helpful either. I see no reason to arrest people outside singing either.

So if it is not fear, then it is just a quest for power from the governors and those in charge. That is even worse.

I saw an interview with three top epidemiologists and they all said we need to protect the elderly and vulnerable, let everyone else get exposed and build immunity. They said it would take 3-6 months and then there would be enough immunity to cover the vulnerable. Restricting those who do not get sick, but build immunity to the virus is the opposite of what we need to be doing. Not my words, but theirs.

They call this the “Failed Swedish Model.” Almost surely seen on some political channel .

Compare Sweden to the other Nordic countries.

It is impossible to protect all vulnerable populations and still have a functioning society.

It is impossible to protect everyone from everything. It is impossible to have a functioning society if you protect everyone from everything.

There has to be a balance. How will the out of work poor feed their families? The rich like you can manage. Those of us who are not so rich have to find ways to work so we can feed our families.

I searched for a clip or their names. I missed them when I was watching. I can not find them right now. I will keep looking.

CDC’s new IFR survivability estimates after contracting the virus are broken down by age as part of the agency’s “COVID-19 Pandemic Planning Scenarios" Scenario 5: Current Best Estimate are as follows:

0-19 years old survivability rate is 99.997%
20-49 years old survivability rate is 99.98%
50-69 years old survivability rate is 99.5%
70 years old or older survivability rate is 94.6%

To put that in a different perspective the CDC’s new estimate for the death rate after contracting COVID-19 by age are:

0-19 years old death rate is .003% or .00003
20-49 years old death rate is .02% or .0002
50-69 years old death rate is .5% or .005
70 years old or older death rate is 5.4% or .054

We then find out that experts at Oxford University have determined that approximately 30% of those included in Britain’s Office for National Statistics' (ONS) coronavirus deaths toll over the summer actually died primarily from other conditions.
