Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

Maybe I missed something but I thought this was a abduction. I guess we will eventually find out the details.

not sure why the first comment is surprising. As to the second, I am sure the whole community is a bit on edge.

I wonder if the campers who found the body will be given the $50,000 reward.

i believe the reward was for her safe return. either way, i presume all references to the reward were removed when she was identified ?? i have not looked.

now that her remains have been recovered, officials may have sufficient evidence to pursue the case, including DNA, possibly other material clues. they may have an “individual” in mind, but too early to share details.

it’s distressing for everyone, it reflects no person is beyond the grasp of evil, we exist in safety based on “odds” it won’t happen to our loved ones, but, reality is, it happens - when predators decide it’s happening.

unfortunately, i learned this lesson when i was Sasha’s age. i got away.
my daughter escaped a violent rape when she was a freshman in college. permanently harmed, but alive. i fear for my granddaughter, 12, innocent and trusting, knowing she is so, only as long as she is not specifically targeted. females, of course, are not the only targets of evil.

who will target and when? unknown.

how to live in balance with caution, without undue fear, is reality on earth.
the “barbarians” throughout history live on. we pretend they don’t.

i pray for the Holy Spirit to oversee and protect victims in their unspeakable terror and pain.
whether they yet know Jesus Christ or not. i believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to be where we cannot be.

From the article:
The body of a missing New Mexico woman has been discovered in the Arizona desert, more than 270 miles away from the “secluded” Mennonite community she mysteriously vanished from over a month ago, and investigators are calling it murder.
What sort of "secluded Mennonite community" are they talking about here. They make it sound like the isolated Mennonite compounds in Mexico or Bolivia. I thought it was just a church. Is there a whole secluded community of Mennonites there? What is the nature of that community?

Farmington, NM is a pretty small town in a remote area that’s in the middle of the Navajo nation.

The Mennonite community there is a typical one - they have homes and properties mixed in with all the other rural and semi rural people. There is a publishing house there and many people like to be close to that. There is also shared housing for volunteers who go and live there.

But calling it a “secluded community” is poor reporting.

Good description.
i’m not surprised by the chosen words. urban folks have their own pov.
i have one relative who is a Chicago city gal, Greek Orthodox. lovely young woman.
she is terrified to drive anywhere beyond highway lighting. she can’t fathom miles+miles of highway without highway lighting. heart palpitations.

to her, most of the U.S. would equate to being on the moon. seriously speaking.

(i would like) if Sasha’s hymn were shared in these reports.
