This is the same exact thing that Bush told the American public about Iraq. That they would greet us as "liberators" and that regime change would be easy.

Somehow I don't think the "Great" Iran that Iranians might envision is necessarily going to be friendly to America or Trump. or for that matter, Israel.

It’s hilarious how often Trump’s own words undermine what his supporters and defenders claim.

Trump, much like Obama, has been perfectly comfortable assassinating people like Soleimani. This is not exactly news.

What is really odd is seeing so many Iran regime defenders pop up, including here in MennoNet.

On or off forum, the pattern hasn’t changed. i hope for a TDS remedy. To ease misery.
i wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It seems to negatively impact reading-hearing comprehension.

The report below is biased in appreciation of Trump’s strike, to offer balance. To reflect there is more than one pov.
There are several points i appreciate.

i hope it’s more than wishful thinking on their parts. Time will tell.

I think it’s a little bit like when you get accused of wanting to support Russia you find that offensive and you find it ill placed, and wrong. I would argue that there is no one here supporting the Iranian government and their decisions.
Sometimes just because you don’t agree with the country and how they’re being ran, doesn’t mean you can’t also identify how they’re being mistreated or how what’s being done to them is violating laws of the country doing it.

Just a day before the U.S. launched strikes on Iran, Pakistan had stated its intention to “formally recommend” U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. The country expressed its desire to recognize Trump’s role in helping India and Pakistan reach a cease-fire after conflict between the two long-time rivals resurged earlier this year.

…

Pakistan’s announcement of its intentions regarding a nomination came as Trump posted on Truth Social about the Nobel Peace Prize when commenting on his international mediating.

Within that social media post, Trump took credit for “stopping the war” between India and Pakistan.

“I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the war between India and Pakistan. I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the war between Serbia and Kosovo. I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for keeping peace between Egypt and Ethiopia," Trump claimed.

Pakistan’s Nobel Peace Prize recommendation occurred just one day before Trump authorized the U.S. to strike three nuclear weapons bases in Iran, joining the Israeli conflict.

"Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!," Trump said late on Saturday night, as he announced the military action.

The Government of Pakistan, which shares a 560-mile border with Iran, spoke out on Sunday in condemnation of the strikes, calling them a serious violation of international law and the IAEA Statute.”

Pakistan reified its support of “Iran’s right to self-defence,” but also urged that diplomacy is the only path forward. Still, Pakistan’s alliance with Iran throws into doubt the country’s intention to nominate Trump for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize.

Can’t beat that Pakistani timing.

I simply don’t have a problem with taking action to destroy facilities to create more nuclear weapons. Particularly when conducted with plenty of warning it’s coming.

I don’t see any laws being violated. Like it or not, the Great Powers get to decide who else can have nuclear weapons, and the current consensus is “we don’t any more people to have them”.

Plenty of warning? Trump announced a 2 week period to evaluate the situation and then began bombing what? 48 hours later?

How many people do you think it is OK to kill to achieve this objective?

Human rights groups in Iran say that 722 people have been killed so far in the bombing campaign. Is that OK with with you?
What about 7220 people?
What about 72,200 people?
What about 722,000 people?
What about 7,220,000 people?

Where is your cutoff point?

And if International consensus and international law is our measure for action. Well, international consensus is that Russia is committing war crimes in an illegal invasion of Ukraine. And needs to be expelled from Ukraine.

Iran has been developing a nuclear bomb for quite a while. 48 hours is plenty of notice to evacuate sites doing things like enriching fissile material.

I simply do not see valid excuses why Iran’s regime needs to develop nuclear weapons. We need less proliferation, not more.
