JohnH wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 12:15 pm TPUSA is obviously a political organization focused on causing certain types of societal change.

Charlie Kirk himself seemed to spend the majority of his time talking about non political things, though, which is why I think he had such broad appeal.
TPUSA was where Kirk spent most of his time and effort — it was really his “baby,” the organization he built from the ground up. And TPUSA has always defined itself in explicitly political and cultural terms. That doesn’t mean he never talked about marriage or faith on their own, but those were almost always tied back into the bigger culture-war message.

Still, a young husband and father has been killed, a family is grieving, and many of us feel fresh fear about whether we can speak freely without violence. That grief and that fear are things we all share, and I think that’s where our hearts should return.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

i presume she is in shock, she says she isn’t sleeping.
Very hard to view.

i prefer no cameras or mics for the recently bereaved.

i hope no one judges. This is raw.

JohnL wrote: ↑Fri Sep 12, 2025 10:16 am I only knew about Mr Kirk in passing. I don’t do the podcast thing. After he was assassinated I started watching his videos and listening to what he was saying for myself (instead of some commentator who’s pushing an agenda). He never advocated hate. He was always kind in his responses.
Do you intentionally target and nitpick my comments repeatedly or are you doing this to everyone here?

Read my comment again, this time slowly. It was not a blanket statement. I shared my experience of his videos.

Then I suppose you're missing my use of the I statements and my referring to the vids I've seen.

Full post:
On the antifragile Charlie Kirk influence: Tonight my 23 yo son came home from a long day of being an electrician apprentice then trade school. Out the door at 5:30 am back home at 8 pm . Showered. Ate dinner. Did push ups. Sat next to me and prayed aloud for Charlie’s family for 10 minutes without prompting. Listened to two worship songs including “Rise up O men of God.” Watched a short talk by Charlie while eating. Hugged me and said “I need to be like Charlie. God help me.” Went to bed. Something is happening with young men. Burn like fire. Pour like rain.

I'm seeing a lot of posts like this too. And it's from multiple ethnicities. A group of Maori did a Haka dance in London, England to honor Charlie Kirk. So much for labeling him a racist because that label isn't sticking. People across multiple cultures and ethnicities are honoring him.

A young husband and father has been killed, a family is shattered, and most of us are shaken. Whatever our views of Charlie Kirk, we can share in mourning.

At the same time, I think it’s worth keeping a few things in mind as we talk together:
  • Many are already presenting Charlie Kirk as if he were a saint or martyr for our common faith. I doubt that’s the reason, and we simply don’t yet know the shooter’s motives.
  • We can grieve the loss of a husband and father without immediately debating what Kirk stood for, or assuming his faith expression was a fully Jesus-centered, Kingdom-first faith. That’s a bigger conversation, and maybe not one for this moment of raw grief.
  • It’s worth remembering that many people preach openly on campuses every day without facing violence. This tragic act, while devastating, should not be taken as the automatic outcome of public Christian witness.
  • And when it comes to the flood of tweets and videos, we really don’t know who produced them or how they were funded or amplified. Some are surely personal and heartfelt; others may be coordinated or boosted by groups with political interests. Weirdly, Twitter has made it really hard to track these things down, it used to be much easier.
We can honor the grief without rushing into hagiography or being swept away by online narratives.

I hope we can keep compassion at the center—grieving with those who grieve, while also exercising wisdom and patience before drawing larger conclusions.

I see no need to keep these things in mind for a few days. I choose to celebrate the life and eternal life of one who professes Jesus as savior.
