The retail environment is also constantly changing. Most business closures have nothing to do with crime. It is mismanagement. That is why places like Sears, JC Penny, Bed Bath & Beyond, Toys R Us, etc. have closed. They get replaced by new businesses. The Bed Bath & Beyond that closed near my house last year is now a PetCo. The JC Penny building got remodeled into a biotech lab.
I think the old school department stores are a thing of the past. I think the only one left in our area is Boscov's. Sears is gone. Kmart is gone. We do have a Ghetto-mart Wal-mart but that is a story for another day....

Been a while since a store closed here. Last one was Shopko, which is now Grace Church (stylised grace church), which is part of the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches, which is a formerly Anabaptist denomination that retained full immersion (three times backwards and once forward, or maybe I have that backwards) but otherwise accepted Calvinism, so one is presumably predestined to be triple-dunked (or predestined not to be), and they mandated that every church shall have the word “Grace” (or “grace”) in its name.

Please expound on this "buy money" you speak of
I wondered if that phrase would attract attention. 8-)

The chain drugstores sell prepaid debit cards, which are essentially money.
