And never with people in the room who have any background or understanding in the basic issues - nuclear energy, how to monitor uranium production etc., the history and culture of the region, etc. Normally, both sides have large groups of experts who understand the details and can work things through. And time to do it.

Instead, we announce "negotiations", send the same social media stars once more, and are shocked when negotiations take more than 24 hours.

While threatening things like annihilating their civilization or sending them back to the stone age.

How is that negotiating? How would we respond if other countries did that to us?
How well have those rooms full of “experts” worked so far?

The U.S. is pretty much the only country that can persuade or control Israel.
But Netanyahu seems to be persuading and controlling Trump in this case.
I don’t buy into those “Israel and Jews control the U.S. government” conspiracy theories.

true whether wanting quick time or measured.

God’s time is always perfect. Not always painless. our time is up for debate.

God’s time can be instant, or seemingly very lengthy.

With all our (silly) machinations, tho, God prevails.
A big part of leadership is receiving criticism, whether fair or unfair. We’re not required to like the President and we are allowed to express our feelings about whoever is in office. We do have a responsibility to evaluate and respond to decisions when they are happening.

Even when we trust God and God’s timing, we still live in a system where leaders are accountable to people.

Better than ignorance and celebrity and "flooding the zone" on Twitter. A lot better.

The whole campaign against expertise and knowledge ... I just don't get it. Expertise is not the enemy.

When you fly somewhere, do you ask for a pilot who has no expertise? Do you prefer surgeons who are not expert? If we want to know what is going on with Iran's nuclear weapons over time, should the negotiations involve people who actually know how to do that?

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

That’s an interesting answer you use often, i don’t see a connection to anything i wrote.
No requirement for there to be a connection. just sayin.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

Most of the NT was written by an expert in Torah and more... I don't understand this anti-expert thing either... sure, there's a few that are arrogant/condescending or wrong about some other thing, but that doesn't give us license to ignore or disparage them as a whole... Thankfully this gov/movement hasn't entirely rid itself of experts at least in lower levels, but it certainly seems zealous to do so at the upper levels. I'm glad most of the institutions in my life aren't run this way. Praise God for highly educated experts. It's a profound grace from Him. We should be thankful.

Well, how many years ago was it now... under Obama a lot of experts worked out a pretty good deal with Iran; it was working. Then another american came along and 'blew' it all up... suspiciously, possibly mainly for spite and reactive petulance than well-researched, evidence based reasons... I suspect most will someday wish the name who shan't be mentioned here wouldn't have done that...

It seems to me that it has been a long time since the US had experts (not self proclaimed experts) at upper levels. Ever since TV and maybe radio, people at upper levels seem to be more the result of stardom or popularity contests rather than people who are really competent as administrators in their field.

A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.

Yeah, you have a point there.

I would question the idea that “experts” were somehow in charge before that. The 1930s (after the experts created the Federal Reserve in the 1910s) seems to be a sign of a distinct lack of experts, as is being unprepared for World War II.
