P.9:
Robert:
Refugees and general immigration are two different things and unfair when they are lumped together.
Challenge is many unfairly used refugee status and are really just immigrants. Clearing these lines will not make people happy.
P.10:
JohnH:
I wish we could have an honest conversation that most asylum claims are not genuine. That’s very sad for those who do have genuine claims. But just because someone lodges a claim does not mean it is valid.
Making a mockery of DHS hurt a lot of people, it will take time to correct. Disregard for law can be contagious, “everybody’s doing it” can be intoxicating. It’s ruinous to society.

For myself, i’m hoping for Top-Down accountability. Anything less would be no change, at all.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

How would you like to do this?
Talking with people, treating immigrants around me with respect so others can see it in operation, pointing out (in a calm way) the beneficial history of immigration, work on learning a language spoken by immigrants...
I like all of that. I don’t see that as trying to influence government policy or exert any sort of control over the issue.
I see it as advocating for the way of Jesus, and his Kingdom, to any one that will listen. From fellow church members to the King himself if we had such an audience.

Mike, sometimes speaking up on behalf the least of these, whether the unborn or the refugee or the slave or war victim, is perceived by partisans as "trying to influence the government," even when it is simply articulating a Kingdom perspective. When the government is doing something clearly immoral, does Romans 13 muzzle our moral voice on an issue in deference to the government's God-ordained authority?

John the Baptist sure did not think so.

Immoral by what standards, those of the kingdom of God? Or the government's own stated moral standards? Or some other moral standard? Who decides?

A wee little man can’t say, I’m sorry. A big man owns his mistakes and apologizes.
A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.

Evidence immigrants are not helpful to the economy:

If a state has very few public benefits then immigrants are probably not a net drain. But it’s impossible to have lots of unskilled immigration and also have lavish public benefits. You get to choose one or the other.
