Based on what? How is the government demanding that Mr. Miller poison his food before selling it?
They demand he douse it in chemicals like citric acid. Needless to say, doing this is not necessary.

Meanwhile, people are having permanent kidney failure from eating romaine lettuce from Wendy's - perhaps the government should focus a bit more on fast food and industrial-scale food production and less on a small, independent Amish farmer whose shareholders are very happy with the arrangement they have with him.

Citric acid is poison? So you never drink orange juice or any other kind of citrus and don't eat berries?

What foods is he required to "douse" in citric acid?

Citric acid these days is produced industrially, with us importing it from China.

That's the entire dispute. The U.S. government requires slaughterhouses to spray meat with citric acid now.

Call me crazy, but I don't think a small independent farmer should be required to spray industrial chemicals sourced from China on meat. He should be allowed to slaughter it in the traditional way. The only "need" to spray with citric acid is in huge, industrial-scale slaughterhouses.

Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.

Probably you end up making bad choices, especially if your belief is wrong.

Citric acid is used to slow the growth of bacteria in meat. Synthetic citric acid is produced by fermenting the fungi Aspergillus niger and has been used in food preservation since the 1920’s. It’s widely used as a preservative because it is safe. Since it’s derived from fermentation, calling synthetic citric acid an “industrialized chemical” is misleading. It’s not poison.

All of this legal tussling began with tainted milk and a listeria outbreak that killed a Florida woman in 2014, so it’s not like the USDA is coming down on Miller without reason.

So what alternative "natural" substance is he proposing to use instead of citric acid to treat and protect the meat he sells from bacterial infection?

In a small operation, it's not necessary at all.

Anybody in the US, (citizen or not) is allowed to buy an animal, and have it butchered wherever he/she chooses in whatever manner he/she chooses, correct?

The job of civil government is to restrain evil, and selling someone a product that is potentially deadly, is evil, IMO.

Now I suppose a person could sign a waiver saying they take whatever risk comes with buying from the Amish farmer, but the gov't probably doesn't allow that option.

We have a lot of meat markets in our Amish area of OH that are owned by Amish I'm curious if they use this citric acid or not. I know people that buy from them specifically because they assume they're not using things on their meat that they consider harmful and it's not like you read in the paper about people dying from buying meat from Amish farmers.

I understand the story was on Tucker Carlson of Fox News tonight. My mom informed me since she has cable & watches his show. She said armed agents showed up to shut him down. That the Biden ad.inistration is targeting Amish & Tucker Carlson saw it as wrong- i have ro find it to see for myself
