We do know ivermectin has some therapeutic effect on RNA viruses. (This was pre-covid research.) We don’t have any conclusive data specific to covid.
We also know it’s not toxic at certain doses. So it may do no good, but it doesn’t hurt to take it.

and, this, about involving state government:.. With little to no interest from drug companies, some people want government to step in — even state government.
Earlier this month, at a hearing of the new Massachusetts Lyme Disease Commission, veterinarian Sam Telford suggested the Bay State license GlaxoSmithKline’s FDA-approved vaccine. ..Just an aside, the CDC has the authority to authorize the use of veterinary drugs in humans, on a non-routine basis,
if there is no appropriate treatment.
As far as I know, this has mostly been used for Anthelmintics, as there is no US approved treatment for many of these issues.

One of the biggest issues with drug medication cocktails is how various therapies interact with each other. Many drugs are contraindicated for other drugs. I am on Coumadin for example, which is strictly contraindicated for Ibuprofen. Just because it is effective and produces no side-effects when otherwise healthy people take a one-time dose alone for intestinal parasites doesn't mean it is equally safe for a desperately ill Covid patient who is simultaneously on 6 other drugs. That is what large-scale clinical trials are for.

Agreed, but ivermectin has been around for a while and it’s well known what the contraindications are. (For example you can’t drink alcohol on it, if I’m not mistaken.)Ken wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 2:56 pmOne of the biggest issues with drug medication cocktails is how various therapies interact with each other. There is a group called FLCCC which has their own therapeutic treatment protocol that includes it.

Re: Ivermectin
Sure, but I doubt many people taking ivermectin for intestinal parasites in the 1980s when the drug was being tested were also on Remdesivir or monoclonal antibodies. And a side effect that might be of no concern or largely unnoticed in a healthy individual might be of more concern to someone struggling to breathe with Covid. It might yet turn out to be the Covid wonder drug. But we aren't there yet and I would be concerned about people smuggling veterinary ivermectin into hospitals for sick Covid patients without their doctor's knowledge. Which is actually happening.Josh wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 2:59 pmAgreed, but ivermectin has been around for a while and it’s well known what the contraindications are. Apparently the latest potential Covid therapy is Fluoxetine (Prozac), and I expect we will soon see a run on Prozac as people start taking it on their own. The problem is that it is prescription med and there isn't a veterinary version so I expect it is much harder for people to obtain on their own.

You learn something new every day. Are people going to Petsmart looking for Prozac to treat their love-one's case of Covid on the down-low? I'm kind of terrified to even google it and find out.silentreader wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 3:31 pmProzac is also used for dogs, but I don't know if it is veterinary or otherwise.Ken wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 3:13 pmSure, but I doubt many people taking ivermectin for intestinal parasites in the 1980s when the drug was being tested were also on Remdesivir or monoclonal antibodies. Re: Ivermectin
Prozac is extremely common - 1 in 6 Americans are on antidepressants now and Prozac is one of the most popular, if not the most popular (and also one of the cheapest).
If a patient wants it, they can probably get it with 20 minute telemedicine call to a psychiatrist by asking for help with depression.
Prozac is also used for pets - to treat depression. This is surprisingly common. I suspect most people get it from a normal pharmacy (and then have to hide it on their cat or dog food).
