Don't know the answer to your good question . . . Since learning of the case, I've been thinking much and feeling empathy for folks who thought this type of situation could never be part of their insulated community. How do they deal with the reality of feeling betrayed by their leader? Are their entire set of moorings upended?mike wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 6:11 pmI haven't heard about this particular situation. Is a life sentence usual for this type of crime?TruthSeeker wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 5:56 pm If anyone on this forum is in contact with folks whose foundations have been rocked by the Stanley Champ sentencing, I am willing to be a supportive presence for them in any way possible. I don't know this particular church, but that's possible. However, these things have happened often enough in many churches that thought it would NEVER happen to them, that people should know by now that ANYTHING can happen. Nothing is certain.TruthSeeker wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 6:24 pmDon't know the answer to your good question . . . Re: A Better Way Child Abuse Prevention Seminars
A church can almost never live down a situation where a leader commits abuse, especially in the age of the Internet. Online reviews and blog posts and news articles are very long-lived. A local evangelical church had a youth pastor who carried on a covert affair with an underage girl and was found out. The church did absolutely nothing wrong - they instantly informed the police, and there was no coverup of any kind that I know of. It was instant local news, and the senior pastor was interviewed. The police commended the church for their handling of the situation.
Still, there are the negative reviews online, and that church will never live down the fact that this happened in their midst, even though they didn't really do anything wrong other than perhaps some unwise policies such as the youth pastor being allowed to mentor a young lady without others present. But even that may not have been with the church's knowledge.

Many decades ago when I belonged to that denomination, the "impervious" mentality existed. However, that was before the internet and social media. Don't know the actual current mindset but definitely feel compassion for anyone struggling to reconcile reality with cherished illusions.

What denomination is that? (I assume Eastern.)TruthSeeker wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 8:19 pmMany decades ago when I belonged to that denomination, the "impervious" mentality existed. Yes to Eastern. If that is not Chanp's current denomination, I stand corrected. Was told yesterday that Gray's Prarie is Eastern, but the informant may have had misinformation or simply was behind the times.Josh wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 9:41 pmWhat denomination is that?
