The CAM scandal links and assorted other topics thread

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

Probably just hasn't tried hard enough. They do prefer people with a CA background (although I don't think that's required), and they don't pay very high salaries.

Unfortunately, low salaries and under-credentialed people tends to result in corruption.

That's not what Jesus or the apostles taught.

I am not answering for CAM but my thoughts would be:

To a child of God - character is more important than credentials. And therefore, even in our mistakes and inability to discern properly every spirit at times, I would be looking for a follower of Christ with integrity, humbleness, work ethic, sincerity, compassion and etc.
Experience and credentials are important too, but all the training in the world is not of more value than someone of no training who is always honest and truthful. Not to say I would put an honest person into a situation where they would obviously harm another because of their ignorance, but I'd also have trouble putting a talented trained person who is dishonest, deceiving, and evil in that position too.

Unfortunately, my experience is that trained professionals can expect respect because they hold a certificate and knowledge and therefore could easily not be attracted to a charity that is looking for humble sincerity and not esteeming ourselves higher than others.

Well, as previously said, if I go for heart surgery I'll take the training.

Working for CAM is virtually volunteering. You get room, board, some travel expense, and a very small stipend for incidentals. Most educated professionals can't afford that long term.

I am positive no untrained medical person from CAM ever performed heart surgery. To even suggest that is a distortion.

Why make these mutually exclusive? Why not look for qualified individuals with these virtues? There are multitudes of Christians who are trained professionals that have integrity, humbleness, work ethic, sincerity, and compassion. I'm decrying the fact that CA's are not among the multitudes that have both.

Are you equating the EL in CAM with these "virtues" you named?

I don't understand this, and perhaps this is something that needs changing. Especially in light of the fact they seem to have enough funds to "lawyer up." It seems fundamentally flawed.
