Again, I do not agree with it, but it is what it is.
It may be a legitimate tactic when the book was written, and his opponents weren’t as well studied on him.

The way that Wall Street frames the exact same thing, is T.A.C.O.
I’m unconvinced that this tactic of making big loud statements and demands and then backing down, is very effective anymore for Trump, because everyone sees it now.
Once there was a quite effective President named Theodore Roosevelt who actually had success in winning a Nobel Peace Prize, has his image on Mount Rushmore, actually built and owned the Panama Canal, and successfully asserted dominance in the Western Hemisphere, and his motto was “Talk softly and carry a big stick”. Quite different than “Threaten and bluster and then back down”, and with correspondingly different results as well.

^^i was glad to hear this, even without details.
mike wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2026 9:02 pm I guess we learn who the administration has been negotiating with; it's the foreign minister. I wonder how he has his authority. Maybe he is the most senior member of the government still alive and able to negotiate. It will be interesting to see if the IRGC is subordinate to him.

Israel and Hezbollah to honor the 2-week ceasefire as well.

Peace talks Friday.

But a lot depends on whether the strait is 'opened,' whatever that means.

And whether Iran actually follows the ceasefire, which was in question immediately after the announcement.

Pressure put on Iran by China might have led them to blink per NYT.

Stock futures up over 900 points as of this moment; oil prices down 14%.
^^The public never knows what’s going on IRT. Impossible.
This is how passions can be whipped up quickly, then, when more info becomes known, adjustments must be made.

i’m willing to adjust to news about a ceasefire.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

My impression is the US caused a coup, the post US backed government signed a treaty, the US government helped them start a "peaceful" nuclear program. Later after the revolution the new government didn't honor that prior treaty and didn't follow the guidelines. Then Pres Obama signed a new treaty with them and from what I've actually read, the noncompliant proof was under the treaty signed by the US backed government. From what I've read, they were compliant with the letter of the treaty until shortly after Pres Trump destroyed that treaty.

The fact that this point over their compliance is so heated just illustrates that truth is subject to the party. There is no truth as each side has taken it and used it for their own end and finding accurate data without spin is impossible.

As for the treaty, I expect the US to attack Friday again. As for Iran's missiles, well, if you just sign a treaty it takes time to filter through the ranks. Their control structure might not be as top heavy as the US and unless their attacks continue today, I wouldn't really think much of it. Historical practice the cease fire always takes time to start.

I loved what Kamala Harris said when she was interviewed how she would handle Iran. She said “One word: Don’t “.
I’m quite sure that would stop Iran’s plans. Really intimidating - Don’t. Okay President Harris, we won’t.

If Kamala had won- how this scenario would have played out.

I was told that if I voted for Kamela, prices would go up and we’d be in a war with Iran. Turns out they right.

If you voted for Biden, prices and gas went up so?
What about what happened in Afghanistan under Biden? You don’t know that we wouldn’t have ended up in a war under Kamala, but I do know she would not address the threat in Iran if all she would say is don’t.

If we’re going to judge politicians by whether they keep their promises, I don’t think Trump comes out looking very strong either. Prices are up. We are at war. Trump said he was going to do the opposite.
