Perhaps the Yale essay I linked to? It’s an awkward and cumbersome phrase to be sure.
But deconstructing things is so much fun though, so…
Unfortunately, there's usually serious consequences when people take such word-games too seriously.

Incidentally, I've never heard a phrase that sounds more Gnostic.
For them, the body is just a material thing that has nothing to do with "the real you." It's a direct attack on God's created order.
You can "play god" and be your own creator instead!
 Not to sound too polemical but one can see how once we begin down the road of the plasticity of the body, an entirely incidental husk to the real you which is one's consciousness; transhumanism becomes not just imaginable but also desirable.

Slightly-serious question:
How does a society built on the premise of radical individual autonomy, prohibit something like uploading your consciousness to the matrix? :-|

Down those convoluted roads. There are so many!!
For those paying attention, the hypocrisy effectively undoes secular mind games.

If the mind is all that matters, the mind will prevent the body from behaving in its normal function. But that’s inconvenient to the narrative/game, so, those goalposts are rendered meaningless, too. Relativism gone ‘way outta bounds.

It’s completely disengenuous to suggest any of these cases are confined to whichever particular case. Esp when demanded by those known to “do anything” to establish legal precedence, no matter how isolated or weak the case may be. The INTENT is to LEVERAGE, and keep leveraging, with no foreseeable end. True for courts of law and on the everyday social level.

The losses of sanity to date have been vast. In public schools, public libraries, publishers, by law/force of the sword, et al.
No corner too small or remote to escape.

A couple of recent consequences:

KY / Parents outraged ..
https://www.lex18.com/news/parents-outr ... igh-school

FL / Speaker kicked out ..
https://news.yahoo.com/speaker-kicked-f ... 58337.html

[As far as i’m concerned, those 2 reports are not fit to add to this forum. i’m adding them, because these sorts of reports the content and far worse, are/is openly+proudly put on the plates of “everyone’s children,” in taxpayer funded entities and all over the internet.]
It’s a sewer.

Betsy DeVos was not competent for the job (of doing a much-needed complete overhaul of the DOE.)
Who is up to cleaning out the infestation of rats+cockroaches?

At one time, decades ago, U.S. public ed was something important in the world.
The problem with all human endeavors is: vulnerability to laziness, incompetence, and corruption.

Too many trusted too much for too long. (Scriptures warn about the importance of vigilance.) The price has come due.

It’s a big problem. Not too big for God.

The reason you do not see this across mainstream media is because it goes against the narrative they have been preaching over the last 5 years.

 I do not find that surprising but it should disturb all of us.

 That some of you are trying to make this as no big deal? I guess I find that not only surprising but very disturbing.
I agree 100%! I find it hard to imagine that anyone would even begin to think that a a policy like this could work in a school. I could be sure, that without a shadow of a doubt, this kind of policy will be extremely abused.

 I don't want to argue about it, but some of the thoughts on here are very surprising and disturbing to me.
It’s to your credit you are capable of being surprised+disturbed. A genuinely healthy response.

i’ll take your word for it.
being charged by police does NOT equate to being found guilty in a court of law.
altho on the mob rule internet, the process is frequently ignored.

This case has actually has been all over the mainstream media including the Washington Post which as mainstream as you can get. Relative to the national coverage that high school rapes get when say an athlete rapes another student I'd say this event has gotten about 1000x more coverage than the average rape that occurs at a high school. How many do you actually think occur every year and how many of those make the national news?

The AP investigated that question several years ago and found reports of over 17,000 cases of sexual assault at American K-12 schools (both public and private) over a 4-year period. How many of those made the news? https://apnews.com/article/sports-only- ... dd6406ebb7

Sexual assault is a huge problem in American schools, both public and private. Sexual assault by transgender students who are legitimately and legally using bathroom accommodations is not. Your disapproval of transgender students is blinding yourself to that reality. I have a high school daughter. I worry about her safety in 100 different ways. But getting assaulted by a transgender student in the bathroom is not one of them.
I was not intending to say that I think abuse will come from the transgender people, rather I was trying to say that I think this policy will be greatly abused by non-transgender people posing as such, and therefore taking advantage of the policy. I would feel like it just opens a door for more opportunities for abuse. To be clear, I do disapprove of the transgender lifestyle because I believe the Bible teaches it is wrong, but that was not specifically what I was talking about here.

All this and more. Trans is just more to throw on the pile that fuels depravity, no sense of consequences, cavalier attitudes toward immorality+amorality, et al. It’s all well underway, which gives confidence to ever more. The doors are open.

It’s a deliberate distraction to focus on any one individual or crime.
Focus should be on the non-human organized political blocs+cults that have become EXPERT at exploiting individuals to increase their political power, and access to the public treasury. The end goal of organized blocs is always the twofold same: power+money. No “fixing” anything, no cure, no end. No resolution. Power+money.

The U.S. gov is full of strategically appointed “representatives” with appealing and official-sounding titles, that are nothing more than politically organized operatives present to “represent” these various special interests (not to represent “the people” as a whole).

“Organized” is key. The tail wags the dog.

To be clear, I do disapprove of the transgender lifestyle because I believe the Bible teaches it is wrong, but that was not specifically what I was talking about here.
I tried to explain why as a teacher I don’t see that happening. Namely because this is not an accommodation that non transgender kids would ever have available to them. Accommodations such as this are never something that are blanket granted to anyone who wishes it. At every school there is a detailed bureaucratic process that the administration will go through before granting such an accommodation to any student that will involve meetings with parents, counselors, administrators, and such, and putting everything down on paper. Showing up to school in girls clothes or simply claiming to be trans or gender fluid would not give any student permission to enter the opposite sex bathroom. They would have to go through a long administrative process before specifically being granted it. Just as they would for any other special educational accommodation that is not normally give to all students.

Let me give you an example. I have some students with learning disabilities for whom one approved accommodation is that they are allowed to take their tests open note and un-timed. This is not an accommodation that any other student could take advantage or “abuse” without prior approval as part of a IEP (individual education plan) . And any other student who took it upon themselves to bring a cheat sheet into a test would fail and be written up for academic dishonesty. I expect that schools following this new transgender bathroom policy will do exactly the same thing. Any student who hasn’t gone through the formal process of getting this accommodation individually approved for them will be prohibited from entering the opposite sex bathroom and be disciplined as normal if they try to do so.

Now is is possible that some student sexual predator student is going to go through all the trouble of posing as transgender 24/7, bringing their parents and psychologists into a series of meetings with school administration and counselors, and work out a whole set of accommodations on paper, just in order to assault girls in the bathroom? I think that is absurd in the extreme. No non trans student is ever going to do that. They are going to do all the usual ways of assaulting girls like trying to get them drunk at parties or alone in their car or whatever.

Note, I’m not trying to minimize sexual assault in schools. I think it is a huge problem. And ordinary harassment short of rape is probably a bigger problem on places like social media or in the hallways. I just don’t see this specific issue of bathroom accommodations for trans kids as being any sort of risk.

laws have been or are being crafted to protect those claiming these various states of being from being questioned/scrutinized.
i don’t see or foresee rigorous screening.

that would be deemed invasive/transphobic, as is the case for homophobia, and other specially protected classes. with a flare for drama, they scream loudly at any perceived slight. people submit, often in hope to shut them up. they are special and aren’t about to be treated “like everyone else.” that’s just not good enough. they crave attention.

but then, i lived thru the lies of “consenting adults.” all of this stuff is based on lies and manipulation.
the time+resources wasted on it is outrageous. no self-respecting school would allow its time to be diverted like this.

Notice, the first source is “CIProud” (with CBS logo) which clarifies reporting bias, as if necessary.

IL / Differing opinions ..

https://pantagraph.com/news/local/educa ... 9265d.html

The temptation is to ignore, esp citing, “i don’t have children,” “we home school or private school,” etc.
i see this as a big and unnecessary mistake.

1. Everyone who pays taxes has a vested interest - the lion’s share of taxes goes to fund gov ed.
2. Home school and private school parents are not exempt from funding gov schools. Neither are the childless.
3. Regardless of school choice, there comes the day when everyone’s children meet in the world, in college, in church, at work, at play, in social media. Gov school grads teach in gov schools. (It shows, doesn’t it?) It self-perpetuates.

i support alternatives to gov ed! :D
Either way, i pray parents and others in the community “keep an eye on” gov schools, BE PRESENT, don’t allow them to continue to get away with destruction of vulnerable minds without accountability.

Yes, it’s late.
The problems began decades ago. People were authentically ignorant and overly trusting. The results are in. :-|
God is patient. He wants all to come to Him.

2 Peter 3:9

8Beloved, do not let this one thing escape your notice:
With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

9The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness,
but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.

10But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief.
The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare.…

It was 100% predictable, as so many ignored changes underway in public schools AND libraries. Parents are BUSY and TRUSTING.
Once these materials are brought home, tho, SHOCK sets in.

i’m really sorry it had to go this far for the reality to “hit home.” There were abundant warning signs, loud+proud.
At this point, it’s gone so far down the pit that justifiably angry parents are labeled terrorists.

Keep in mind that if your daughter gets assaulted at school, the school board and Washington Post will (a) try to portray you as a terrorist and (b) try to portray your daughter as a loose, promiscuous girl who was “asking for it”.

At this point I cannot imagine how that's possible. I can imagine your brain being able to directly interact with a computer making a person a kind of cyborg, but cannot see how your consciousness could be uploaded anywhere to live apart from your body - ever.

If it really were possible I would think any Christian would have to reject it, but that's just a dystopian fantasy, imo.

From a marketing perspective I think the metaverse will turn out to be an anticlimactic flop. RPG games might be really fun in virtual reality, if you're still into them (I used to love them) but just walking around in a virtual utopia would get old fast. As for virtual business meetings, who'd want them? At least if you get zoom-fatigue you can just turn the camera off. You have more freedom just staring at a monitor.

Everyone thought 3D movies would change the cinema forever too, and what happened to that? So, I don't expect the internet to be going anywhere real soon.

It might make pornography a worse problem, though. I can see people getting "married" in virtual reality thinking it's all just fun and games.
