Rational person: All we are in Afghanistan is a target for people who hate us, we should leave.
Agreed, but first make sure ALL Americans, ALL Afghan partners and Special Forces who aided the troops, were out of the country. And not wait until the last minute to evacuate.
I predict there will be Americans left behind and it will technically be the largest hostage situation that the U.S. every saw.

Is all that activity on your part just imaginary? If you own a store can I just walk in and take what I want because money is imaginary anyway?
Look up the definition of fiat currency. I may own a dollar, but others decide the value of it, if at all.

Try hard not to offend. Try harder not to be offended.
I think I am funnier than I really am.
Maybe they trusted Biden when he said that what happened, wouldn't happen. Just last month Biden said this wouldn’t happen.
Biden said we would be pulling out of Afghanistan by September 11. So far we are on track to do so. Seems to me like he is keeping his word.
That is the only thing that is within US control. Anyone thinking otherwise is naive in the extreme.
Of course he spoke encouragingly about the former Afghan regime. To do otherwise would only have hastened their demise and made the situation worse. Words have consequences and had Biden announced last May that the Afghan regime was on the verge of collapse, all that would have happened is that he would have accelerated what we are seeing now.

This could be worded better. It sounds belittling of anyone who may see things differently than you.
I wasn’t trying to belittle anyone here.
I was referring to people who would go to Afghanistan in the summer of 2021 and expect that the US government has control over anything that happens there other than the deployment of US troops. That seems pretty foolish. We clearly do not control the fate of that country despite spending 20 years and an estimated $2 trillion in US dollars. So the notion that Biden could could affect the course of events by making announcements in a news conference? We just aren’t that influential.

The Afghan Regime did collapse anyway. In a July 8th press conference, so much of what Biden arrogantly and forcefully claimed WOULD NOT happen, has now happened. We know he was advised that a Taliban take over more than likely would happen, so his lying to the world was the answer?
The Taliban and Isis K feared President Trump. They’re laughing at President Biden.
Again, I think the big mistakes were not planning ahead for a massive airlift, and not implementing an orderly SIV and evacuation process in the months previous to the withdrawal. With all the bungling of recent presidents related to crises and conflicts, I'm not sure any of them could have done well in a situation like this.
I'm not saying there is nobody who could handle crises like this well. But in the last number of decades, US citizens have been electing presidents who are known for their ability to talk big, inspire or charm the masses and/or their ability to scorn political opponents. It seems to me that it has been a long time since the US elected a President based on his administrative ability.
