Looking for book recommendations on multiple subjects.

Post by Divos25 »

Hello Everyone, I hope you are all doing well.

I was wondering if anyone had any book recommendations on theological doctrine of anabaptism, putting the faith into practice, or things like spiritual warfare(separate books for each) I am trying to get closer to Christ and think that it would be best to quit searching online as much. I was wondering if any of you had any good recommendations?

For doctrine, I recommend The Theology of Anabaptism by Robert Friedmann.

It is available new from Wipf and Stock Publishers, and I am sure used copies are also available.

(It is a scholarly work, and also a reflection on Anabaptist theology by a seeker. When I get to a brief quotation in German that I don't understand, I just skip it and move on.)

Not written by Anabaptists, but I think Resident Aliens, by Stanley Hauerwas and William H. Willimon, does a good job of a really central Anabaptist concept by two people inspired by Anabaptism:

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Another one by Hauerwas I'm currently reading is "Jesus Changes Everything" available at Plough https://www.plough.com/en/topics/faith/ ... everything and Amazon.

This book was edited by Charles Moore a member of Bruderhof.

Hi Divos25, can you explain a little what you are looking for when you mention spiritual warfare.

A Guide on how to use spiritual warfare, to get rid of demonic oppression and obsession and to start fighting on the offensive. Hope that helps.

Like how to deal with spiritual attacks and cut them out at there root and things like deliverance prayers rather than actually casting out demons. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm not sure what books I would recommend here. Most of what I have read or heard taught seems a little too far in one direction or the other. Either people want to stay away from the whole topic ... or they go overboard.

Does anyone know really good resources on spiritual warfare?

The only book I'm aware of from a Mennonite/Anabaptist perspective is Even the Demons Submit: Continuing Jesus’ Ministry of Deliverance, which contains a rather academic set of articles from a conference at AMBS several years ago.

Deliverence ministry is not typically a core Anabaptist practice. We tend to prefer a more well-mannered Holy Spirit.
