Yes, I am not good thinking on my feet, and I wish I could have done better with that question. I hope to get better at this with practice. I had just got done describing traditions that are unique to so I wasn't sure what they were looking for and what sorts of traditions they might have been asking about. But it would have been good to just reiterate some of those in a traditional/scripture context (here are things that all Christians used to do) but I wasn't prepared for that one.Praxis+Theodicy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 12:59 pmI do think your answer to one of the audience questions could have been better. It was something along the lines of "what traditions from the New Testament does your tradition still carry out". I think talking about nonresistance and how it was an apostolic tradition would have been good; or, for a more tangible example, you could have mentioned the headship order/head covering (Paul refers to this as a "tradition" or "ordinance" in 1 Cor. 11).

I think your response to "The Chosen" question was really good... talking about the medium as distinct from the message, and worthy of consideration in it's own right. Not enough people actually give thought to that. My wife and I rewound that portion to listen to your answer a second time. Something about the medium that someone first hears the gospel in will be the medium they return to later on for some reason (evangelizing or discipleship or something). Anyway, I appreciated it.Ernie wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 4:12 pm Yes, I am not good thinking on my feet, and I wish I could have done better with that question. I also really liked your end note quoting someone else, along the lines of reading the Bible, and knowing there are some things that are hard to understand, and there are some things that are painfully easy to understand. I think I have heard that from a brother in my church, so maybe it was Denny K. or someone else that had an influence back in the day.

The Bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand we are obliged to act accordingly.

Hey Ernie, I went looking for this and realized it's almost a year old! November is next month... is the college sponsoring another one of these? Actually, is it LifeQuest that sponsors these, the college, the Religion Department, the Student Spiritual Center, some sort of interfaith society on campus or someone else?Ernie wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 7:35 am A Christian Panel Discussion featuring representatives from Orthodox, Evangelical, Anabaptist, and Anglican faith traditions.

Here is a link to a handout I prepared for distribution at these events. (At earlier events, we were each asked to share what we love about being part of our particular faith tradition.)

Anyway, I hope it is happening again this year. Let us know if it is happening!

Student organizations and their affiliate staff take turns planning and hosting these panels. LifeQuest helped host the last event.Praxis+Theodicy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 23, 2025 10:33 amHey Ernie, I went looking for this and realized it's almost a year old! The Anglican group is hoping to host one in November but they haven't given me the dates yet.

Any updates on this? We're mostly through November. Did it happen already? Not this year, but in future I'd love to come to this event in person. And I'd love for more events like this to happen.Ernie wrote: ↑Thu Oct 23, 2025 11:22 amStudent organizations and their affiliate staff take turns planning and hosting these panels. I haven't heard anything so I don't think it will happen this semester. The Anglican upheaval is probably consuming a lot of time for the local church. I'll try to post something if something gets scheduled.Praxis+Theodicy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 1:34 pmAny updates on this? We're mostly through November. Did it happen already?
