Identification

Post by R7ehr »

This was new for me. I was boarding an airplane. And I didn’t have to show any identification or boarding pass, or anything like that. I got to the gate, and they had me stand in front of a camera like the ones that TSA uses. I stood there, the gate agent told me my name, I nodded confirmation, and I boarded the aircraft.

There are several reasons I don't want to fly anymore.

We should expect this sort of stuff to be automated and eventually be nearly everywhere. We already are having scanners put into cities nationwide to track license plates.

Facial recognition, image databases, and AI. Welcome to our new world.

2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

It’s happening.
A few months ago, i read advice to not allow photos at boarding, to instead request conventional check in.
i’ve been photographed a couple of times. Along with requests for tangible ID. so far.

It happens so quickly. Everyone wants everything to be quick, instant, no delay. Esp at airports.

I'm not at all convinced that everyone wants the government tracking us so closely.

I don't remember voting on this. Seems like the government just went ahead and did it. The invasion of our privacy is exponential and stunning.

o.yeah. those are 2 different things, wanting speed+efficiency, versus gov just doing it.

the world took a turn allowing tech geniuses so much sway, on top of the human legal system.
tech geniuses are great. they have limits. they aren’t God, i’m not sure they’re aware.

Maybe it helps deport undocumented people.

If you vote at all, I would suggest just simply looking at the people you voted for and see if they voted for it.

My guess is outside of a few fringe people pretty much everyone voted for it in our government.

I wonder if it is the airline, and not the government in my case.
With TSA, you can opt out of the camera. Which I have in the past, just out of curiosity. This time I didn’t. However, there are signs at the TSA camera which state that they do not retain your photo.

I don’t remember giving any photo to the airline for them to match, but maybe I did at some point. I certainly did not today, but they managed to accurately match me with something anyway.
