Just switched phone carriers: that was fun

We are in the process of switching all our family's phones to another carrier, basically over saving money and reliability reasons. Did the first one yesterday afternoon. No swapping SIM cards. I was at it for an hour but it was worth it in the end. The next one will go smoother I hope. Buying $100 smartphones on eBay just wasn't what it was ten years ago.

I've been with Verizon for 15-18 years at this point, and it's time for a change. Their quality of service is excellent, but the odd thing is you can the same plans from Visible (a division of Verizon) for quite a bit less. Some of our children are using it and I see no reason not to switch. There are so many options for carriers these days, it's hard to pick one.

Just keep in mind that many alternative carriers do not provide the same level of service coverage area and speeds as the parent company. Xfinity, for example, has a contract with Verizon to get the same level of service coverage area and data speeds up to a certain amount per month, after which you get throttled. Many alternative carriers do not have this good of a contract with Verizon.

We went from AT&T pre-paid (used to be called Go Phone?) to Xfinity. Biggest challenge was getting my number swapped from AT&T to Xfinity. Needed to download the app, install the app, install the update for the app, then get my account number from AT&T (its not the cell number!) and then acquire a "port-out" code which is basically AT&T releasing my number to them.

I was at it for maybe two hours, mostly trying to navigate the initial phone start up.
