Bluesky

Post by mike »

I haven't heard of the Bluesky social platform before the last day or so. Seems like some are migrating there from X.

Any of you guys setting up shop on Bluesky? (I assume this is to be pronounced Blueskee) :P

TechCrunch published an article the other day with a headline saying Bluesky is seeing an exodus of unhappy users recently.

Most of the people I know are dropping out of social media either most of the time or entirely. Earlier this year, I wanted to look up a lot of old friends and found that I could no longer easily find many of them because their accounts were deactivated.

I don't really use social media either, so I can't complain. I do still have a Facebook account. I suppose I still have a Twitter account, I no longer know how to log into it.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Maybe it's an ex-Twitter account now... or at least an X account.

The only reason I'm still on Facebook at all is because of several work-related groups. There are good national closed groups for AP Biology and AP chemistry where teachers share ideas and resources and answer each other's questions. Those are pretty useful. If it weren't for that I would have been gone long ago.

It just seems to be getting worse and worse with all kinds of random AI generated garbage showing up on my feed.

Facebook is so bloated with suggestions and reels and stuff I didn't ask to see. That is why I've always liked Twitter for following people I was interested in. It's always been a simpler feed. I use it to follow public figures and commentators and organizations. I don't use it for personal interaction. Its ads are very easy to scroll past. I much prefer it to Facebook.

However Facebook remains extremely effective for advertising, so obviously many people are using it. But I would venture to guess they use it a lot for groups, Marketplace, and other things besides social networking.

Installing and configuring FB Purity and viewing the Friends feed gets rid of most of that. Of course the problem then is the content that friends post, but that's another subject.
