I’ve been on Air Force One several times at the Reagan Presidential Library.
It’s pretty cool to walk through it and see how different it is inside from the planes I’ve been on.
Have you seen the original 707 Air Force One, used by Eisenhower through Nixon, at the Museum of Flight?
We were talking about visiting yesterday, didn’t get there.

A little frightening. My son flew into Newark yesterday morning.

Apparently the pilots did everything they could. I read that they brought the plane down hard and braked very hard, and hit the fire truck at around 66mph. Their action saved their passengers' lives, but not theirs. Imagine how much worse this could have been if the plane had not been slowed down as much as it was.

After posting above, i read this.
The burden is on the pilots, no matter cause or fault, tremendous responsbility.

Looks to me like they were going pretty fast, something like 100 mph doesn't seem out of the question. I'm amazed there were only two deaths.

Preliminary reporting of the speed at impact has been all over the place, from 24 mph to 104 mph. Not sure how accurate that can be until the NTSB confirms it. Regardless of the speed, the plane looks like it was on the ground and decelerating normally before the fire truck entered the runway. At that point, full braking and full reverse thrust were the only tools available to the pilots, and they apparently used them, but it was too late to avoid the collision.

It looks like the firetruck driver saw it coming and tried to swing to his left, but was also too late.

i’m surprised Captain S has this much this soon.
Not easy for him to report.

7:45 mark - Captain S describes the problem of ATC talking on 2 different frequencies, in this case, one for the pilot, another for the fireman.

Captain Steeeve / Runway Collision at LaGuardia — Air Canada and Airport Fire Truck / -19min
Captain Steeeve breaks down the tragic runway collision at LaGuardia Airport involving an Air Canada Express CRJ-900 and an airport fire vehicle.

Late Sunday night, an arriving regional jet collided with a fire truck that had been cleared to cross the runway — with ATC audio capturing last-second calls to stop just moments before impact. The result was catastrophic, claiming the lives of both pilots and injuring dozens more.

In this episode, Captain Steeeve walks through what we know so far, including the sequence of events, how runway incursions happen, and the multiple layers of safety that are designed to prevent exactly this kind of accident.

He also explains the critical role of air traffic control, ground vehicle coordination, and situational awareness — and how even small breakdowns can align into a devastating outcome.

As always, our hearts and prayers go out to the victims of this tragic accident and their families and friends who are grieving during this difficult time.

From Canada: 0-6:30 mark is about LaGuardia, other unrelated topics are covered.

JUNO NEWS / Candice Malcom / Air Canada plane CRASHES in NYC + Canada listed as terrorist money-laundering haven /

CM’s report includes the ATC heartfelt recording, “i messed up” -
it’s important to keep in mind, as oj said above,
no matter what is said in any given moment, formal investigations will determine outcomes.

Every part of this incident is gut-wrenching.

.. prayers for the many harmed and affected, including first responders, the investigators. so much pain.
