Something else; let me explain.
I block ads via the uBlock Chrome plugin (also available for Safari, Firefox, and Mac) and don't blacklist any sites.

At work, its regulated pretty hard for obvious reasons. I have nothing on my phone but its old tech anyway. At home, due to having some children cyber-schooling, we have a pretty fast connection and I have the "parental controls" clamped down pretty hard, but I realize that's not enough compared to some standards. I tried a filter once, can't remember the name, but it locked up a lot and I un-installed it.

I have advertising blocked but my school program requires me to access sites like youtube for homework. When I lived with family our wifi had its own filter (blocking 18+, hate speech, that sort of thing, it famously blocked my sister's Christian school's website so it clearly had some issues,) but nothing on the individual machines.
I've looked at covenant eyes but recent reviews appear like its new version uses a VPN that glitches essential features like google maps and email. I don't need an accountability partner getting spammed while I try to get directions.
