Has anyone here needed the capability to digitally sign documents? Situation is a customer who raises puppies. A pet store in California told him that they have a state law that requires that the dog raiser (is there a name for that?!) sign certain documents before they can sell the animals there.
So, wondering if someone has used a digital signature pad (via USB connection) to perform a function like that. (Or does he just need a touch screen?)

Re: USB Signature Pad
Can't he print, sign and scan the document?
Or use the e-signature option in Adobe Reader?
Or use a mouse to draw his signature?

He is checking into other options with the pet store, but he is not 'tech savvy', and he hadn't tried other options - just called me about this this afternoon, as I was heading out for other work. (Young Amish guy, first computer experience in the last year or so, very basic user.)ken_sylvania wrote: ↑Wed Dec 31, 2025 7:55 pm Can't he print, sign and scan the document?

I asked him about the first option you mentioned above, and he didn't know if it is a PDF he needs to sign, or what. (Some guys just call me first....
(Doing it with a mouse hadn't occurred to me today, although I've had to do that myself at times.)

He is attempting to comply with the requirements of a pet shop that is, in turn, attempting to comply with what is apparently California State Law.
(The simple solution is, I suppose, to not attempt to do any business in California.)

I guess I'm not clear on why he can't just print off the docs, sign them, and send them back (or scan them in, if one wants to be high-tech).A pet store in California told him that they have a state law that requires that the dog raiser (is there a name for that?!) sign certain documents before they can sell the animals there.

Like many of my customers, he called me before he fully checked it out with those who requested that he do it.JohnH wrote: ↑Thu Jan 01, 2026 12:31 pmI guess I'm not clear on why he can't just print off the docs, sign them, and send them back (or scan them in, if one wants to be high-tech).A pet store in California told him that they have a state law that requires that the dog raiser (is there a name for that?!) sign certain documents before they can sell the animals there.
(One time a woman got really irate with me - verbally abusive - about not being able to do something through email on the word processor I had built years before, something that her daughter's employer had requested. I finally got her to tell me who the employer was, and contacted them directly. It turned out that it was nothing really important at all - just something to do with on-line work schedules that had become possible to do, so she passed out a paper to all of her workers.)
