Re: Trump Convicted

I have no idea. I wasn't there. It wasn't televised. And I haven't read all 94 pages of trial transcripts. Knock yourself out if you are curious: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/05/30/nyregion/trump-hush-money-trial-transcript-may-29.html?u2g=i&unlocked_article_code=1.wE0.FzNI.mXQ7AHRb...

Re: Trump Convicted

Was falsification of tax returns and campaign finance violations part of the examination and cross examination process of the trial? I don't recall that it was. I realize that this may have been part of the jury instructions, but was it part of the trial? Of course. Otherwise, the jury would have f...

Re: Trump Convicted

Of course. Otherwise, the jury would have found him not guilty. That's what the jury instructions told them to do, Mechan was very clear about that. The jury was convinced that the prosecution demonstrated this. Judge Merchan instructed the jury, they didn’t need to "unanimously agree on which...

Re: Bunny Trails

When a post is put in Bunny Trails, can we assume it is off topic and need not be responded to? Doesn't seem like this thread is the one we need to spend our time and energy on.

Re: Trump Convicted

Falsification of tax returns. He fraudulently wrote of the $130,000 payment as "legal expenses". That alone is a crime. And campaign finance violations. The $130,000 hush money payment was an undisclosed in-kind campaign contribution since its purpose was to affect the election. It is a v...

Re: Do important people still sign checks?

Ah, there's some subtext in my mind - the defense is trying to say that Trump was not involved in these payments. But the witnesses who would know seem to be speaking with one voice, saying that he did indeed sign the checks, and this was in keeping with his usual practice. That's what I was addres...

Re: Trump Convicted

Well, no. There is absolutely no evidence of that at all. If there were, Biden should be taken to court too. How exactly do you think Biden reached the jury here? Seems like most of the crucial witnesses in this case worked for Trump himself, not for the DOJ. In New York, generally falsifying priva...

Re: Trump Convicted

I think it is possible for a trial to be politically motivated, and yet it still be a fair trial in terms of how the case was tried and whether a person is guilty of said crimes. Any trial that protects against electoral fraud or electoral abuse in any way will always have a political tinge to it. ...

Re: Trump Convicted

Here is an article the senior legal analyst for one of the outlets not allowed on MN wrote. I have been reading and listening to him before and throughout the trial and feel he's been pretty objective throughout. Most importantly, the DA’s charges against Trump push the outer boundaries of the law ...
