Re: New York Times Critiques Christian Health Cost Sharing Programs

Samaritan Ministries (to which my family subscribes) has went out of their way to make it clear that they are not an insurance program. That is one of the primary reasons why I chose them over some of the other popular sharing programs. I also feel like the way they handle the money by having you se...

Re: The Split has begun: COB

Is this the normal thing in Mennonite conferences? I've never heard of this happening during all the recent MC-USA splits. I assume (although I guess I don't really know) that most Mennonite churches are owned by the local congregations. Mennonites do not do this. As far as I know, Actually a numbe...

Re: POLL: Age of MennoNet Users

I signed up on MD in November of 2005 if I remember correctly. I was 29 years old at the time. There were a bunch of folks in their 20's and 30's on MD at that time. I guess we have all aged together and are now in our 40's and early 50's. It is amazing how time flies.

Re: Hunting - Poll

The truth is, I've never really understood sport hunting or trophy hunting (posing with dead animals). And I don't understand the level of emotion around killing animals that leads people to get the shakes (buck fever). And it seems to me that when animals are killed it should be the quickest clean...

Re: Hunting - Poll

While I try to be thankful that I have land to hunt on and also that our State of Oklahoma issues ‘free’ hunting licenses for land-owners, I’m also soured by the fact our Sooner State believes it is perfectly fine to legally extort $20 per deer tag out of land-owners. I’d be interested in hearing h...

Re: The *official* CAM scandal links thread

https://splash4ripples.com/ Didn't read it word for word but looks interesting. This is a ridiculous distortion of the conservative mennonite position. Classic straw man argument. J.M. That certainly is a distortion of the conservative mennonite position (if there is even such a thing), but sadly i...

Re: Successful vs. Bankrupt Farmers?

This is far more complicated than thinking that farmers with nice farms and equipment have a lot of debt and farmers with lesser equipment don't. In reality it is often the opposite. I worked as a consultant for farmers for a number of years. Often the farmers with the nice equipment really were bet...

Re: Business & the Pastoral Role - Compatible?

I'm following with interest. I am a bi-vocational pastor. The thought that the two aren't compatible seems almost Manichean to me. All Christians are called to be disciples. To say certain business practices are ok for some Christ followers but not for others seems in error. I didn't mean to sugges...

Re: Business & the Pastoral Role - Compatible?

Having been both a pastor and a businessman I would propose that in most cases the two roles are not compatible. Or at least they shouldn't be. I think it is a major failure of our churches in not adequately supporting their pastors which have caused the situation where many pastors are or need to b...
