Re: HPV and Cancer link
Whilst we have Medicaid, we opted to foot the bill for a midwife and a birth centre ourselves. (Medicaid will not pay for midwives nor birth centres; only a much more expensive hospital birth.) The cost is going to be a significant chunk of our (low) income, but is well worth it.

Re: May 11 2024 Freedom of Religion in the U.S.
Josh: I myself use Medicaid which actually is free. Virtually anyone more conservative than I am would refuse it. i’m pretty sure, those who call for “Medicare for all” are thinking of Medicaid. Medicaid would be even more expensive to provide for all than Medicare. Note that 84 million Americans a...

Re: May 11 2024 Freedom of Religion in the U.S.
In the post directly above you Josh is saying that very thing. That most conservative groups would reject it out of principle. Nit-pick my exact language all you want. I believe it is entirely accurate to say that most conservative Anabaptist groups do not respond to the same economic incentives as...

Re: May 11 2024 Freedom of Religion in the U.S.
I have heard (but cannot confirm for sure) that some hospitals ran a surreptitious program in conjunction with Job & Family Services where they signed up Amish families for Medicaid - who came in asking for a "cash discount" to help pay for their hospital bill. They had some arrangemen...

My insurance rates keep going up up up.
My insurer lost $9 billion two years ago. They can’t offer us cheap premiums anymore. The rate of accidents has skyrocketed and the cost of body shops and so on has also skyrocketed.

Re: May 11 2024 Freedom of Religion in the U.S.
More conservative groups would reject it out of principle. Nearly all conservative Anabaptists would agree there is no such thing as “free”. Most work for themselves or smaller employers anyway. No such thing as a free health plan… There is very little interest in the ACA subsidised plans due to the...

Re: HPV and Cancer link
More conservative churches would refuse even if “free”. Less conservative groups might accept it. However, most plain people don’t work for big corporate employers. Generally speaking, a church plan provides superior coverage to the big corporate plans (particularly they don’t have the brutal $12,00...

Re: May 11 2024 Freedom of Religion in the U.S.
Other people here are making that exact claim. For example, on the HPV thread we are informed that most CAs will refuse free employer-provided health insurance that is a benefit potentially worth many hundreds of thousands of dollars. And also refuse highly-subsidized Obamacare coverage. That is th...

Re: HPV and Cancer link
Ken, The majority of the conservatives don't have insurance and pay out of pocket for things like vaccines. Do the majority of conservatives pay out of pocket for all the other childhood vaccines? Most of them pay out of pocket for basically all routine/preventative healthcare. (If they can't affor...

Re: Living in Peace
In short, I'm trying to say that the near-constant refrain of challenging conservative Anabaptists as somehow not emphasising enough being born again, etc. means that part of living in peace ends up not being "debating" with such a person. I have an opportunity to enter such debates freque...
