Re: "gay Christian"

I see what your saying, but why would we label someone by their temptation? Why don't we label someone an "Adulterous Christian (celibate)"? You don't have to have any physical union with another person in order for it to be adultery - according to Jesus Christ. So I fail to see how we ca...

Re: Church Planting By Relocating Families

Neto that sounds like a very orderly method, although quite different from what I'd be familiar with. How is the Church Board selected? Do they serve set terms? Who serves as chairman, and how is he selected? It seems like the board would be fairly powerful in a setup like this, maybe to some exten...

Re: "gay Christian"

This makes me curious. How many people on MN know of LGBTQ people in their congregation? And if so, are they members? the "don't ask, don't tell" mentality sort of takes care of knowing if there are any conflicted souls in the church. and the ones who are conflicted enough to do something...

Re: "gay Christian"

Would it be possible not to turn this into a debate about whether or not homosexual behaviour is right or wrong, and instead focus on the identity question? I assumed that because the person described in the opening post had purposed to live a celibate life, it was a given that the discussion was b...

Re: Church Planting By Relocating Families

Note: I grew up in a true congregationalist church environment (MB = Mennonite Brethren), and after many years in a congregation that is very top-down, I'm more than ever convinced that congregationalism is a better approach. But I would also temper that by saying that while the MBs are very congre...

Re: The art of critical thinking

My impression is that conservative Christian schools in particular do not teach critical thinking. From what I have observed there is a tendency to teach the students "what to believe" rather than to give them the tools they need to help them determine what they SHOULD believe. Self-paced ...

Re: College Education: "us" versus "them"

A bachelor's degree (4 year) will have the general studies courses, while an Associates degree will not (or far fewer). I suspect that most Bible colleges also offer both 2 & 1 year Bible degrees, and many will have associates degrees in things like Missionary Nursing, that concentrate on broade...

Re: Church Planting By Relocating Families

You may already be doing this, but from what I have observed, it seems good for the group of families who are relocating to meet and fellowship together while still in the sending community. It seems to help the new fellowship to get off to a running start and could make for fewer surprises. Along ...

Re: "gay Christian"

.... Christians are in constant battle with sins they were "born" to commit, this is part+parcel of CHOOSING to leave sin/die to self, to follow Jesus Christ. :) .... This is also how I would answer the questions as to whether people are born with same-gender attraction or not. There is a...
