Nonresistance

While most conservative Anabaptist would still consider themselves non-resistant, I have studied the writings of the early anabaptist writers and early confessions such as the Dordrecht confession. It seems from conversations with leaders across the conservative mennonite spectrum whether its Midwes...

Re: Do most Mennonites consider themselves Protestant?

Curious if you see a distinct difference between the Protestant Reformation and what is termed the Radical Reformation, or do you consider the latter to simply be a lesser child of the larger movement? Just about any historian out there would look at the radical reformation as a basically part of t...

Re: Do most Mennonites consider themselves Protestant?

Aa an Anabaptist, I do not want to be associated with Protestant. Why? Re: Do most Mennonites consider themselves Protestant?

I would argue that it's less what Mennonites consider themselves and more what they are based on history. They came out of the reformation just like many other groups including Lutheran, baptists, calvinist, etc. Protestants. The term is basically used to refer to any branch of non-catholic/eastern...

Re: Beards - Given Unto Man

Just curious, what is someone to do that can't wear a beard for work reasons because for example they have to wear a special mask due to working with chemicals. Back in the day, whenever I was a youngster, beards weren't allowed when attending firefighting school. Couldn't get an air pack mask to s...

Re: Mennonite Background & Non Mennonite Background.

I grew up in a mainstream (non-plain) Mennonite background. Looking at old family photos, most of my older aunts and uncles stopped being overtly plain in the late 50s early 60s in terms of dress and such. Before that you could pick the woman out at a distance as Mennonite. By the 1970s not at all....

Re: Creating Suspicion

I think that the only thing he could have done better would have been to 1.) start the other thread himself, or possibly 2.) ask someone who identifies as an 'outsider' how what he wrote might come across. But I'm pretty certain he did not intend any of what you feel someone else might think he was...
