Re: Nonresistance as Lifestyle Choice

I am a member of a Beachy church. It is my understanding that ministers periodically meet with Selective Service folks to assure that voluntary service programs are in place as an alternative to military service. The state is well aware of a strong position against any military involvement, at least...

Re: Are most Christians unaware of Anabaptists?

I think others know more today than they did 30 years ago. Some reasons perhaps: Anabaptists being in new areas with more churches in contrast to other denominations' decline, publishers used by homeschoolers, and the internet making casual interest more easily satisfied.

Re: A Woman’s Role — POLL

For the first time since I began attending, our congregation has ladies only SS classes, small ones with mixed ages. I am amazed by how free and intimate they feel. I am an enthusiastic supporter already since we began in September. For those of you who think women should be silent in church, does t...

Re: Men what does serving your family look like?

Have a commitment to spend time with family at home and in recreational activities, go to important events in family life (like school functions), converse with and generally know the children intimately--these things fill an emotional need for wives. It works both ways, Steve: loving time with the ...

Re: A Woman’s Role — POLL

As a woman: I voted for submission, keeping at home, and modest clothing with the rider that these roles are possible for Christian women who have the support of a church and Christian husbands. We should not impose the expectations on the unbelieving world. As for silence in services, I think this ...

One more topping that should have been in the poll: Cheese. Either sliced or shredded.
 This! Our favorite is Johnsonville Jalapeno Cheddar, then we add spicy mustard, zucchini relish, and more cheddar cheese. Sometimes chili as well.

Wow. I am hungry now.

Re: Forgiveness vs. Restitution vs. Reconciliation?

How would the distinction between forgiveness and reconciliation work in a very close relationship, such as husband and wife, when there is a serious breach of trust?

Re: Does your church have....

1) nursery care for children? Children are valued in our services. We have family seating, not segregated. We have rocking chairs in the back of the auditorium and a nursery with beds. Parents provide care and/or others help. One of the little things that endeared me to this congregation was ...

Re: What people in the pews can do about abuse

Adults checking on their children after church instead of just enjoying a good gab session. This comment again, deserves more than a mere like. I agree, in so many ways! Even if children are only being mean or average naughty, adults checking helps so much. But, it will also deter predators if othe...

Re: End Church Services Promptly? Or as the Sprirt leads?

One thing I don't enjoy about ending "on time" is when the sermon is part of a series, the preacher can't get to a good stopping place on time, and it will be 3 weeks before it is his turn to preach again. I would gladly stay another 10-15 minutes to hear a natural breaking place. Remember...
