Re: Minding Your Thoughts

Mr. H. Lamar Smith states, "Repentance is a change of mind. To follow Jesus, we must change our old ways of thinking and take on His way of thinking." This reminds me of his reflections regarding growth as a disciple and maturation in that discipleship to Christ. Minding Your Thoughts H. ...

Re: How can conservative Mennos keep from splintering?

Do you know of any conservative groups that follow this model? Yes but not nearly as many as there should be. How stable are they? How long have they existed? My Beachy congregation is very brotherhood oriented (unusual, I think ). It nets some criticism for that at times. For example, we have neve...

Re: Please tell me why?

It isn't conservatives or even church people's rudeness in general so much as that Christians have been infected with the wider American anti-family values. We say we believe children are a blessing from God. Well, we ought to greet them accordingly.

Re: Please tell me why?

A friend with eleven children told me she disliked telling early because so many people were critical of timing or numbers. It was like "casting pearls before swine," she said. Shame on US for ever making a pregnant woman feel that way.

Re: Idle Language/ Alternative Cuss Words

It is not just a CM thing, only another lost Christian value in America. Ma in the Laura Ingall's Wilder books opposed what she called "wooden swearing." This used to be more widely emphasized among churches. I grew up in a Presbyterian church and my elderly Sunday School teacher was adama...

Re: Conversion of celebrities

One of my daughters listened to at least one song of the album. She said it is painful (she is not a fan of that style) but she thinks it fits the "Philippians test" that Christ is being preached, so glory in that.

Re: Soups, stews, chili and gumbo!

The plot (and possibly the soup) thickens... Or is it thicken ? Thickens is correct because one does not include parenthetical statements in determining subject-verb agreement. :blah: :blah: :blah: Now I will sit on my inner Grammar Nazi. As my children say, "You do realize, Mom, that normal p...

Chili and cinnamon rolls--This combo is from my husband's old elementary school.

Re: Confrontation vs walking away

Fleeing is not always a sign of weakness but of strength. Not a sign of immaturity but can be a sign of maturity. Amen and amen. Sometimes walking away is also a sign that it’s none of my business: not my circus and not my monkeys. Good insights! The test of nonresistance is when you cannot walk aw...

Re: Nonresistance as Lifestyle Choice

We can talk on and on about how we are peace-loving people, but being a nonresistant person is much more than not bringing death to another person's body. People can be destroyed by another person's tongue and in this area, Mennonites are not as nonresistant as they would like to believe they are. ...
