Re: Jeriah Mast indicted (again)
Former Ohio missionary pleads guilty to molesting 2 boys in Haiti Interesting. A 25-33-year prison sentence would be most of the rest of his life. And it also means finally pleading guilty in court to at least some of the crimes committed in Haiti, although it doesn't mean going back to face justic...

Re: Clothing and Lust
Again, such a slap in the face for the many victims of abuse in churches who wore all the right things and were abused and raped by church members. Somehow those stories never make the pulpit. Its only a slap in the face if you give women the idea they won't be abused if they wear the right clothes...

Re: Clothing and Lust
That’s fine. I have no problem with Mennonite specific clothing, as long as it’s not something that we are propping up as a “protection”. It is not a failsafe protection, but it has been a protection for some people in some situations. Evil men have often admitted that they decided against assaulti...

Re: Clothing and Lust
What would that "something different" look like for those future generations of Anabaptist girls? I mean, I’m pretty sure we all would like to see no more abuse and rape and sexualization of women and girls. We all agree on that. Agreed. Other than to say that God has made both men and wo...

Re: Clothing and Lust
teach them to dress appropriately for whatever activity they’re doing. Ask “is this appropriate”. What does this look like to you? It will look different for different people. For example: active activities require more than a skirt, in my opinion. Some things really shouldn’t be done in skirts. Fo...

Re: Clothing and Lust
But don’t be surprised when the girls/boys are raped by church members, and eventually walk away from church and God. I find saying that Ernie’s way of thinking will bring on adult church members raping children a very extreme and disturbing comment. It is disturbing, for sure. A quick google searc...

Re: Clothing and Lust
It is extremely confusing for girls when we are told that God made our bodies good, but simultaneously told that are bodies are tempting to men. Girls can be taught that God made their bodies good, also they can be taught the biology, hormonal responses, and hardwired neurological systems of men's ...

Re: Clothing and Lust
May I express the other side? I grew up in the very circles that promote this idea that modesty helps men not lust, and I wish that modesty and lust had been too separate conversations. It left me with extreme anxiety, rape, and self hatred. I would like to see something different for future genera...

Re: Clothing and Lust
This is maybe wording it better. But why would it not be appropriate to dress in a way that makes it easier for some men—not all men—to avoid being unnecessarily tempted to lust? Girls do not need to be told this. They will experience this at some point in life without any teaching. Many ladies hav...

Re: Clothing and Lust
If she indicated that men won't lust if they don't see ankles, that is indeed a problem. But why would it not be appropriate to dress in such a way as to make it easier for some men (not all men) to be unnecessarily tempted to lust? “Easier?” This is maybe wording it better. But why would it not be...
