Early church fathers believed by Anabaptists.
I’m curious if any Anabaptist Christians ever read some of the early writings of Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, Polycarp of Smyrna, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus of Lyons, Tertullian of Carthage, Clement of Alexandria, or Origen of Alexandria. I remember reading about a couple of these men when I w...

Re: Kingdoms of this World Under Divine Authority
The Bible uses Pharoh in the time of Moses as an example of this. According to Paul he was apparently a vessel made unto dishonor. Kind of a unique idea when the Bible also says we are to obey and respect our leaders.

Re: Understanding Nonresistance
Matthew 5:44 specifically, although the Anabaptists would use other verses to also prove this idea.
But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despite fully use you and persecute you.

Understanding Nonresistance
Of course this is a key factor to any Anabaptist belief, but is it really what Jesus meant? Consider the fact that in the Old Testament God often caused his people to fight in war. At times he even commanded things like killing women and children as well. Consider when they came into the land of Can...

Re: Interested in learning about Holdemans
So I feel fairly unbiased on this topic, but my question is this. How did the churches in the Bible do? Why is it so hard to understand that? The apostles obviously held a high office in the all the churches, I believe Paul even talks about bishops which is obviously a higher ranking minister which ...

Re: Messages to the seven churches, Revelation 1-3
Thanks for that!! That makes more sense to me than anything I’ve previously read about it. I’ve studied a bit about numerous of the denominations, but the thing that has always impressed me about the Anabaptists is the way they put the sermon on the mount as their model to try to literally follow. T...

Re: Messages to the seven churches, Revelation 1-3
So excuse my ignorance, but what is the Anabaptist view of the kingdom of God and the church? Are they the same thing or are they different? I’ve just never really understood this point at all. I’ve visited many different church denominations and I appreciate different points about them all, but I’v...

Re: Messages to the seven churches, Revelation 1-3
I agree with you that this is a very interesting topic. Probably to me the most interesting is the differences that are in the churches and yet Christ considers them all a part of his church as a whole. It seems so complicated to me to try to understand when does a group no longer become part of God...

Re: Interested in learning about Holdemans
John do you know any books other than John Holdeman’s who teach the one true church? I was reading in Martyrs Mirror earlier and it talks about the true church which maybe is considered the same thing. I’ve found several early church fathers who wrote about the true church and doctrines and things t...

Re: Interested in learning about Holdemans
I just joined this chat. Found it interesting to find there’s a thread actively going about Holdeman Mennonites. I was actually raised that way. I would say much of what John has said would be the way I understood their belief. The only difference was I was taught there was a thread all the way from...
