Re: Anabaptism, the New Testament, and capital punishment
Because I’m not God. I obey what Jesus tells us to do. I do not consider myself equal to God or Jesus. What has considering yourself equal to God, or not got to do with my question? Maybe I don't understand you correctly. You asked this other person how to reconcile his view with the 4 points you m...

Re: Anabaptism, the New Testament, and capital punishment
So do you yourself know how to reconcile all this, and still remaining non-violent? Because I’m not God. I obey what Jesus tells us to do. I do not consider myself equal to God or Jesus. Re: Measels outbreak in Lancaster County
I set my standard at "this drug wasn't developed using aborted baby tissue". So Tylenol is completely fine. If some modern-day pharmaceutical companies decide to use stem cell tissues for testing, that isn't my concern, although if I can find out a certain manufacturer did this, I would a...

Re: Mark 7:9-13 and pacifism
I don't really see the connection to stoning children very clearly. The Bible speaks of disciplining with the rod (Proverbs 23:1). I think this illustrates some of the care necessary in using and understanding scripture. I discipline my own children on occasion but I am cautious of using Proverbs 2...

Re: Mark 7:9-13 and pacifism
I think disciplining children with the rod, is about children in the age of child rearing.
The stoning is about adult children, seeing which vices are mentioned, and the fact that it has to happen where the child lives. That implies he doesn't live with his parents anymore.

Re: Mark 7:9-13 and pacifism
What is the point Jesus is making here? Isn't it that one has a duty to support one's parents? The religious establishment said that you are holy to give those funds to us instead. Greed replacing compassion is what's wrong. Yes of course, but my question was about people saying that this is also J...

Re: Mark 7:9-13 and pacifism
Exactly. Jesus does not say they are setting aside the law by not stoning children. He says they are setting aside the law by saying people can decide to give money to Jewish causes instead of supporting their parents - a practice that benefited Pharisees and religious institutions. Yet Jesus never...
