Re: Are there any non-Beachy Amish sects that permit Bible study in the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek?
When my wife and I left the States to do Bible translation in Brazil (1985), we were financially supported by not only Several Beachy Amish-Mennonite congregations, but also other Plain Mennonite congregations ('Plain' in that men wore the 'straight cut' suit, women wore cape dresses and the tradit...

Re: Comparison of horse and buggy Anabaptists that are accepting of seekers
Well this is the standard procedure for any Plautdietsch-speaking colony, if one does not speaks the language, then joining them and proving that you will remain a faithful member of the congregation will be a huge issue, this is still different from having a complete blanket ban on not accepting o...

Re: Comparison of horse and buggy Anabaptists that are accepting of seekers
Also very curious to know about this, first time that I hear such a thing, not even OO Amish in the US prohibit converts, permanently joining OO Anabaptist communities is something extremely rare and difficult yes, but not completely prohibited. Lorenzo Canas Bottos in his writtings about the old c...

Re: Comparison of horse and buggy Anabaptists that are accepting of seekers
The old colony mennonites don't allow it, you need to be plautdietsch by birth. Is this actually the case? Also very curious to know about this, first time that I hear such a thing, not even OO Amish in the US prohibit converts, permanently joining OO Anabaptist communities is something extremely r...

Re: Comparison of horse and buggy Anabaptists that are accepting of seekers
How do the Old Colony Mennonites in Bolivia and Paraguay, and the Sommerfeld-Bergthal Mennonites in Paraguay see seekers who fully comprehend the Bible in High German, and are willing to learn Plautdietsch to join their community? The old colony mennonites don't allow it, you need to be plautdietsc...

Re: Anabaptists in the South American country of Bolivia
The Mennonites of the Florida colony in Uruguay are presumably Beachy Amish. There are several colonies of the Beachy Amish in Paraguay (Luz y Esperanza, Florida, La Belleza). The Amish colony in Bolivia is defunct. The Mennonites of the Florida colony in Uruguay are presumably Beachy Amish. There ...

Naranjito is not defunct. You are probably mixing it with the Argentinian one.Disciple of Christ wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2026 1:19 am The Mennonites of the Florida colony in Uruguay are presumably Beachy Amish. Re: Anabaptists in the South American country of Bolivia
I have read that “2% of all newborns in Bolivia in 2024 were born to German Mennonites, up from 0.2% in 1980. German Mennonites have a Total Fertility Rate of 7 kids per woman, while for Bolivia as a whole it is 1.7 kids per woman.”. That would make Bolivia have a higher percentage of German speaki...

Re: La Gloria and Haran
Do you know if Springfield is still in fellowship with the Scottsville church? If they are basically doing their own thing now... They are still Noah Hoover. There is no way to be more conservative tech wise if there is no engines used already. It’s always possible - for example there’s a group in ...

Re: La Gloria and Haran
Great to hear. It is a wonder Springfield doesn't also have a problem with tourists, since they are so close to Belmopan. Someone described it to me as the most traditionalist, low-technology place there is, to a degree that goes beyond even other Hoovers, and to the point they are basically doing ...
