Re: Sunday School Curriculum Options

I think Sunday school books should repeat every 28 years and stop throwing the old book away. I believe R&S is on a 28 year cycle Interesting - so they don’t update their lessons? They do, but the basic outline is on a 28-year cycle. They aim to complete the Bible every 7 years, but one 7-year ...

Re: Sunday School Curriculum Options

We follow the R&S Adult curriculum, but do not use their quarterlies. At our last brothers' meeting, we discussed having some kind of books to use but no decision was made.

I believe several are. One was recently silenced. His 3 youngest sons, I am told, have joined the (Greek?) Orthodox Church

Re: Pilgrim Conference split

Does anybody have a membership number and bishop number before Northeastern left? And what it was at the end of 2024? Northeastern was granted tax-exempt status in October 2014.In the 2015 Pilgrim Directory (printed Jan 2015) There are 9 bishops listed. Three bishops left prior to that to form the ...

Re: Pilgrim Conference split

I think Ernie’s observations about Pilgrim and Hope are both accurate and astute. I still do not see the logic of Pilgrim splitting over size when each of the new groupings could be called small, medium and large. It just strikes me as odd that a split over size is done the first time the overall m...

Re: Pilgrim Conference split

If you believe Jesus and the apostles favored a decentralized power structure, and a smaller or more localized leadership hierarchy, what Pilgrim is doing is wise. I worry about denominations and large churches that can't split because leaders are holding on to power or because they are trying to p...

Re: Anabaptist ordination - lifelong calling?

Where do we get the idea that one must be ordained in order to preach, at least on an occasional basis? My son, an ordained bishop, says he finds it interesting that when an ordained person gives a discourse, it is a "sermon", but when given by an unordained person it is a "topic&quo...

Re: Large plain Mennonite churches

I have been in an Old German Baptist Brethren church that is that large, and my guess is the Lancaster meeting of the Old Order River Brethren is about that big. Never a conservative Mennonite church. It's interesting that these are Old Order type Anabaptists. Reiffs has some Old Order DNA (adopted...
