Re: The Didache: Your Thoughts
In reading the Didache again after becoming familiar with the different Anabaptist Confessions, I see some parallel teachings in those Confessions which, in my opinion, exhibits some familiarity with the Didache itself. It would not surprise me in the least that Michael Sattler, et al were inspired...

Re: Appalachian Mennonite Church
I think it's just the grass is always greener, Josh. People and politics are the same everywhere. If you like having rules it's a good place to be, unless it also frustrates you when you see others wholesale disregard for said rules.

In every stereotype there is a grain of truth. - Rush Limbaughken_sylvania wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 5:08 pm Maybe it would be funny if it were actually true. But since it's only partly accurate, the rest of the fun has to be in seeing how people like to stereotype others.

Re: Appalachian Mennonite Church
But all that said, there is no question 80% of Conservative Mennonites would NEVER be Mennonites if they had been plucked away at birth, dropped down and had to join a church. What I mean is, they are not STAYING because these are the handful so wonderfully convicted. They THINK they are deeply con...

Re: Social Security ....The monthly Check...yes or no
An IRA is just a savings account dedicated towards retirement. They are tax advantaged ...I frankly can't imagine any religious group demanding that their members pay more taxes than necessary simply due to the name on the type of account. Annuities take many forms. An IRA is just the tax status or...

Re: Social Security ....The monthly Check...yes or no
As Josh has said, Form 4029 does not prohibit 401(k) plans or IRA's. IRA's are not uncommon in ultra-conservative groups, as they are merely tax-advantaged savings accounts. I too would be very interested in a cite of a case that took issue with an exempt person possessing either. There is, however,...

Re: Social Security ....The monthly Check...yes or no
Hello sgummadi, To qualify for the exemption you must be a member of an approved church. Any approved church I am familiar with will take membership quite seriously and will be very unlikely to vouch for someone who is not a member. If you're willing to share your location someone might be able to f...
