Re: Progressive/Conservative threshold?

An open question I have is differences between BMA and ADC. ADC is more congregational and has a more "Beachy" feel..and is influenced by "kingdom" theology. One of the founders of ADC tells me that only about 5% of ADC is influenced by "kingdom theology". Could you (o...

Re: Revival Meetings in Evangelical/Mainline Anabaptist

I'm curious if anyone knows when MCUSA and evangelical Mennonites such as LMC discarded the practice of week-long revival meetings. I'm also curious about the stated and unstated reasons for this change. I know of one Rosedale Network church (I'd consider it an Evangelical Mennonite church) that ho...

Re: Progressive/Conservative threshold?

re: What is 'Congregationalism'? Decided to see what the 'intertubes' have to say. Wikipedia: Congregationalism (also Congregationalist churches or Congregational churches) is a Protestant, Reformed (Calvinist) tradition in which churches practice congregational government; where each congregation ...

Re: Progressive/Conservative threshold?

I'll probably be an odd one out here as I'm still a seeker dipping my toes in the water of conservative anabaptist churches. A good conservative church in my mind is a church that holds to nonresistance, the headship order (headcovering), and is comfortable, biblical, and communal in its approach to...

Re: Church Government Models

Interesting. Plain Anabaptists certainly don't have anything like this. Is there a name for governments that require leaders to have a certain level of moral character such as is listed for elders and deacons in the Bible? Josh said it pretty well; this would be hard to do democratically, for the s...

Re: Church Government Models

I know of churches that basically operate as: Direct Democracies Representative Democracies Democratic Republics Totalitarian Democracies Monarchies Autocracies Oligarchies Puppet states In each of the above, it is assumed that Jesus is the head of the church and that the Holy Spirit is working thr...

Re: Autocrat vs Institutionalist

I chose "Something Else," and if this is a copout, or too close to "Institutionalism," feel free to call me out. I choose "DEMOCTRATIC" - Leadership prioritizes 2-way democracy: strong, clear, frequent communication with all the people, mixed with more frequent governan...

Re: Failed: Pastor Shooting Attempt - Western PA

Someone approached the preacher with a gun, but the gun jammed. Someone tackled the would-be attacker anyway. I like that God is trying to show that faith in Him and perseverance in His Way is the most powerful antidote to violence.

"I'm in a lot of distress and I feel comfortable letting you know about it because you're my closest friends. But don't get yourselves down; don't let yourself get as distressed as I. I'm gonna endure a lot of things worth getting distressed over, but you will be kept safe, that I know. It's my...
