Re: Anabaptism and Revivalism
I don't have time to respond in full, but I wanted to point you to this article by Dennis Martin: https://archive.goshen.edu/news/april-2003-martin/. He converted from Old Order Mennonite to Catholic and makes a similar observation. He ultimately argues that the tradition can't sustain itself under...

Re: Ordaining women to offices of minister, bishop, elder, pastor, etc.
And how do you explain the verses about keeping silence, asking their husbands at home, and not teaching? I could give a verse-by-verse understanding of why the Scriptures you reference do not, in my mind, prohibit women from serving in ministry. But I believe that we each bring assumptions and fra...

Re: Ordaining women to offices of minister, bishop, elder, pastor, etc.
Amongst Anabaptists, conservative Anabaptists generally do not think the Bible teaches women should be ordained to such offices. However, a wife of a deacon, bishop, or minister does tend to co-labour alongside him. I belong to a congregation that ordains women. That was a change from my background...

Re: Conservatism and Progressivism - It's impact on missions.
I think it's very possible the foreign missions of the Mennonite Church are a primary factor in abandoning fundamentalism. Being immersed in a strange culture where people think and live very differently I think made many missionaries more open to understanding the world more broadly. Experiences in...

Re: Heists
A load of bison was stolen earlier this year and made its way into the shelves of discount grocery stores in Pennsylvania. It was discovered it was stolen and unsold inventory was returned to the vendor. https://www.facebook.com/allaboutbison/posts/update-on-stolen-load-of-bulk-ground-bison-meatdear...

Re: Stunning Global Slide in Dairy Prices
For farmers using AI (no, not that kind of AI), sexed semen has decreased the number of bull calves, which is an important part of what allows farmers to sell beef-dairy calves while maintaining their herd size.

Review: An Amish Paradox
A review of An Amish Paradox about the Amish. It contains themes that have been much discussed here before, but I found it an interesting. Some quotes that caught my eye: I originally picked it up because I was interested in the ways our technological choices shape who we are and how we live, and I ...

Re: Stunning Global Slide in Dairy Prices
That's unbelievable. I would think a sustained period of low milk prices should bring those prices down. I wouldn’t expect relief until the beef market sees decline. Dairy farms have bred a lot of beef-dairy cross calves in recent years. Dairy farming is no longer just a milk production business bu...

Re: Aquila Villa - Stories Made New
I don’t know the full context of the situation, and the report itself appears to be carefully prepared. "The Justice Commission" clearly put in many, many hours of work, and I appreciate that. That said, calling yourself "The Justice Commission" does give me pause, though. It sou...
